Entry #3
The top 5 submissions for April are:
1. A Men's Room Monologue I love the humor in this one. Basically it's about everything that is wrong with going the men's public washroom.
2. Las aventuras de Mr.Coo A completly wacky cartoon with no real storyline. Just a man and environment that constantly morphs in completly unexpected ways. Really imaginative and entertaining.
3. The Child That Smelt Odd The man that did this one... Is so weird. He's got a twisted, creepy way of looking at things that I cannot say I enjoy. Basicly, this is a satire about the foibles of banning free speech (the logical extreme extension of what could happen if all those right groups get their way with banning ads, TV programs and anything else that "causes" people to do bad things). A good lesson actually and it's got humor that made me laugh at times as well.
4. The Non-Livingstons #001 A family of zombies have moved and today is the son's first day of school. A well made movie with good comic elements and an important lesson on ostracizing those that are different then yourself. I can't say I was totally taken by it but DID I love the opening talk between the father and son. First in a series
- The Non-Livingstons #002 The boy's first day of school continued.
5. Kitten Cannon! this was actually released at the end of April but there was a mixup so it ended up an entry for and winning in May in addition to having been in the April contest (which it came close to winning as well). We were promised that this kind of mistake would not occur again. On to the game! Shoot a helpless kitten out of a cannon and have it land on spikes and all sorts of nasty things. The object is to have it go as far as it can before stopping or getting killed. Not my style, but may be for you if you get a kick out of hurting cute, cuddly kittens. :P
With that out of the way, here is a list (in no particular order) of the top 30 movies and games that I saw for the first time this month. I know it's long and you probably won't want to see it all in one sitting but you can just watch one or two whenever you feel bored and then keep the rest for another day.
PS. If I feel it has particular relevance or is exceptionally good I will include sequels, pre-equals and such to the listed submission but otherwise will not bother.
My top picks for April are:
1. Sloppy Fight 2 Uber-powered stick men fight each other for no apparent reason. <grins> Everyone loves a good fight movie.
2. The Beer Song video A humorous music video about the wonders of beer. Did you know that beer is liquid bread, it's good for you? I sure didn't until I watched this.
3. Windows AIDS GAME! Obviously the maker of this has had many frustrations with Windows XP and I can certainly relate. If you've ever had any troubles with the operating system you should play this (be sure to try everything). From logging into your account, to playing Minesweeper, to shut down. Nothing goes right.
4. Stop it kids A unique little, sprite style, music video in the Thai language. I liked the music in it and the animation wasn't bad either.
2008 self: BLAMMED??? I loved this one. I'm writing the author to find out what happened. Hopefully I'll find an alternative location later or something.
5. XIN Session 01 A new episode was released this month. I could have posted that but decided to give the first instead. The series starts out slow, starts getting interesting by part 3 and by part 6 onward I think the writer has fully gotten into his grove. Collectively, it turns out to be the best, full animation, action series I have seen in Newgrounds. Not only is there plenty of fighting but it has a progressively growing storyline and plenty of twists and turns, schemes and rivalries. I love it! Taking place in a world where conformity, corruption, and corporal punishment have taken over the public education system and one student has been brought in by the teachers to try and stop it. Part 1 of a 9 part series and it has a sequel (starting on chapter 10) series that is half way through after your done with the first. to get a complete listing of all the current animations go to:
- Series / XIN There are currently 15 submissions for this on the Newgrounds Series page. Parts 1 through 9 are a complete story and 10 onward are a single sequel that is being built. Highly recommended, if you like the first one set aside at LEAST a half hour to watch the rest because this will take awhile.
2008 Self: The series is done now.
6. History of the F' Word The F word isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Here in this instructive flash you find out how wonderful it really is. I think this may be one of the funniest things you'll find around here. SERIOUSLY!!! When I watched it the first time, I laughed the whole way through.
7. Pope for a Day What would YOU do if you were pope for the day? Probably not what this woman did. What did she do? Well, watch the flash and find out already.
8. Maelstrom GAME! You have a ship that is surrounded by asteroids and other nasty things. Destroy them all and go to the next level. A fun, simple and additive game to play. Also, if your a Macintosh buff, this game is an almost perfect recreation of the original Maelstrom game for the system. There are a few bugs (if you have a machine gun fire you can create a ghost asteroid when you kill it) but still very enjoyable and your high score is saved even after you shut down.
9. Fri Short #1 Wheel Chair Just a short little funny of a guy that's on a wheel chair that's about to crash. that's good for a chuckle.
10. TSG - Xtreme GAME! It's a shell game. As the level increases the coconuts move faster and little cow distractions pop up. How long can you keep your eye on the ball?
11. Homers Special Who doesn't love the Simpsons? In this we get selected quotes and songs from the famous series. Ahh, so many memories. Also see
- Simpson's Soundboard V.2 for more selections. I really love the songs from these two flashes.
2008self: A soundboard, I doubt I would add one of those today. Certainly not for this.
12. Demolition Squid Plays like an action movie trailer. The premiss is totally ridiculous but that's what makes it so entertaining.
13. K&K Breakfast the animation isn't very good but I adored the humor. First in a series.
- K&K-Cat Problems
- K&K: Any Morning
- K&K: Finale The first one I saw. If I had been able I would I have given it a vote for one of the top submissions of the month. I really, REALLY like this series.
2008self: Still one of the funniest series I have come across.
14. Bob Ross Has a Mental I remember watching those little shows where the artist paints on a canvas and makes silly comments ("and now I'll add a happy little bush" and such) so I got a kick out of this one.
15. Monty Python Songs V2 I am a huge fan of everything that is Monty Python related. I love their humor and as this shows, they have made lots of neat little ditties. Enjoy!
16. Trix:Complete Breakfast 1 Start's with a plea from the cerial spokepersons (such as 'Lucky' from 'Frosted Lucky Charms') to just let the Rabbit have some Trixs! Then the actual show starts. After the airing of the Trix Rabbit Justice Ad, sleeper agents from General Mills and Nestle have joined forces to attempt to rid the world of Trix rabbit and his quest to have a taste of his own cereal. Things look bad for that silly rabbit :( lol
17. Starfighter GAME! Starfighter is a top down view, space shoot em up, flash game. You control a Class A Starfighter and have to use it to complete 30 varied missions. You will be rewarded an amount of money depending on how difficult the level is thought to be, and you may spend this money on upgrades and various weaponry. It's very well done and a good challange.
18. Things that dont mix The title says it. A simple animation that gives a funny look at things that just DON'T mix.
19. NANATHON! Poor Nana has been kidnapped and will be killed unless enough people give to the extortion/pledge drive that is underway to save the poor old lady. Part one of two.
- Nanathon Reloaded Will Nana survive? Find out here.
20. PRESENT A beautiful, touching movie about an elementary-school girl and boy who have been friends for a long time. It's foreign, subtitled and not at all funny but don't let that scare you off because it's worth a watch.
21. Creativity It's the amusing story of a slacker and his computer project. Still pictures of the actual creator (this isn't an animation) are used in a stylish manner with a little more then few brushstroke movements and of course, audio narration to keep your attention.
22. MC Hawking: Music Video Steven Hawking is a rapper/superhero (in addition to being a genius scientist) who will rap his way into your heart but can he stop the evil plan of... The FUNDAMENTALIST??? By the way, if you like the song, the artist behind this creation is selling a cd with that song and a few other ones.
23. The AntiClockClock Show you may have noticed the reviews people leave for the animations you are watching. Anticlock has made a funny flash devoted to replying to some of his detractors that slammed other movies he made. It can be a little confusing at first listening to Anticlock read the review out before replying. Just remember when reviewing, first comes your name, then you type a short comment, then give a score, then you type another comment after which can be short or long depending on your mood. The subtitles will have the review part in quotes and Anticlock's own replies without them if you still feel lost. First of a series.
- The AntiClockClock Show 2
24. Water out of the Toilet Showing your dog the hip, cool and ultimately better way to drink water. lol
25. The Billy Goats Gruff An interesting take on the children's tale, "Three Billy Goats Gruff".
26. Black Jellybean 3 Cat like creature gives his views on things. In today's episode he wants to be the new pope :).
27. Review: Alien vs Predator Like the title says, a lighthearted, fun review of the Theatrical film A vs P.
28. The Hatta' The latest Foamy (see first link email issue for previous episodes) cartoon. Foamy has a new friend that get all on your face, yo.
29. Eurodance Robot Dancer GAME! Just a short little fun thing. Press "Rap" "Dance" "Groove" or "Jam" to trigger musical layers and robot moves.
30. The Real Mortal Kombat 1 "Mortal Combat" is a fighting game that was also made into a few movies and even a short lived TV show. Anyway, put these dangerous personalities in a sitcom setting where they live together and you get the basic idea.
Wow! Thirty submissions I wasn't sure I'd get this many quality things to put in. Actually, I have a few more but you have to draw the line somewhere right? Now it's time for my favorite part. Here are five MORE flashes that I have known about for awhile and have really enjoyed. It's really tough keeping this down to five because, as you can see, there is so much good stuff in here that comes on a monthly basis that I could go on and on without running out but I think it's best just to give a small sampling of things. Anyway:
1. YAAFM 10: 50 Cent The latest in an EXTREMELY amusing series that roasts one overrated celebrity a show. In today's episode we go after 50 Cent (he's a gansta rapper millionaire).
- You are a F*cking Moron series Going after Michael Jackson, George W. Bush and others that you love to hate.
2. Magical Trevor A funny and VERY catchy rhyming music video featuring everyone's favorite magician, Magical Trevor. YAY! First of a series
- Magical Trevor2
- Magical Trevor ( Punk ) This one actually isn't a sequel so much as a grunge rock parody of the original Magical Trevor. It's an interesting take on it and well done.
3. For the love of NGBG This animation was a collaboration of three artists. That means that has three different animations in it, each made by a different author. When you get to the intro screen (a part that I like actually, it has a looping, short, soft jazz that is very enjoyable to hear) there are three characters. I recommend this solely on the strength of the purple headed woman feature which features a light hearted and kind of sweet romantic/action bit to the song "Impression That I Get". I wish it was longer. I watched that many times. It was just so darn infectious. The mime one, on the other hand, is totally random, long, nonsensical and ultimatly, unappealing (has kind of a neat hard rock song for most of it though). The blue dino one is just plain awful in my view.
4. Stone Trek: Episode 1 This is an animated webtoon series that imagines what "Star Trek" might have looked like on "the Flintstones" television set. As far as I am concerned, it's a perfect blending so if you love those two shows you will LOVE this combination. OMG this is good. Part one of two. There are other episodes of you like this.
- Stone Trek: Episode 2
- Stone Trek series Easier to visit the makers website to see all the episodes currently published. As always, this is worth watching.
5. T.V. Sex Pals Every parent dreads having "the talk" with their child. fortunately now you don't have to just have the little tike watch this series and all his/her questions will be answered. Feel free to thank me anytime for the service I have provided you :D
- T.V. Sex Pals Episode 2
- T.V. Sex Pals Episode 3
- T.V. Sex Pals Episode 4

That's all for this month. Stay tuned for the May edition!
