NG Timewarp, Issue 12: Links for decent flashes I watched during Feb06
Posted by TomaO2 Sep. 3, 2009 @ 11:32 PM EDTAnd this is the point where I just gave up. I have only a few with descriptions. As you can see I had a lot of picks that I had been trying to whittle down before I just stopped. Another thing I started doing was to post the page where the top five were mentioned.
Here is February's top picks:
1. Metal Gear Awesome It's a parody of Metal Gear. It's liked by a lot of viewers but I just can't get behind it myself. The animation is deliberately bad and it does a lot of childish humor. IT moves at a fast pace with a t lot of sudden jokes like Snake is talking and suddendly shoots the person and then says he died of a heart attack. It's hard to discribe.
2. Geeks In Love Another music video from Newground's favorite band, Lemon Demon. They really have an impressive collection of songs. Kind of catchy. The song "Geeks In Love" is pretty mush how you might expect it. A lighthearted romp on how great it is to be geeks in love. The animation is also very nice and fitting with the song.
3. Spookyville USA Spookyville USA is a cartoon about a fictional town of monster guys. In it Jake O'Brien is trying to play basket ball but he's too little. Fortunatly Sal has come to help him out though insults and by imparting his useless advice. I found Sal annoying. this isn't a favorite of mine. It's a good enough animation though
4. All Your Base DX 2006 Another remake of the "All Your Base" internet phenomenon. A techno beat beats with a robot voice saying "All your base are belong to us." while a bunch of photoshopped pictures pup up with the words the robot voice it saying on various things like posters and chalkboards and whatever. Get's old fast and I have seen the original so it was boring for me. There was one good image though where someone photoshopped the lines of the full conversation for a "Calvin and Hobbies" comic strip. That was great.
5. Sonic Breaks his Neck I am NOT a Sonic fan. He is just one of those things that whenever I see him I turn away even when it's a good animation, which this is. Poor Sonic smashes into a TV screen to get the item inside (which is what you do in the game) but unfortunately this was a bad move and TV shards get stuck in Sonics head. If that wasn't bat enough Sonic's arch enemy Dr. Robotic finds Sonic while he's passed out. Actually this is kind of... gory but if you like violence then go ahead and watch.

7. Field Command 3 I feel this is the weakest of the series so far. As far as fun goes. Looks great and he put thought into it but just not as entertaining. It deals with the native Americans running away from American forces in the 1800's. It's a bit slower and doesn't play out the wrong choices as much, though the addition of why your choices are bad is a good one. There is a point where you go on a raid and I hope you make not wrong choices there cause if you do you have to play all over again. It could have been better.

NG Timewarp, Issue 011: NG flashes that I LOVED during Jan06
Posted by TomaO2 Aug. 23, 2009 @ 4:55 AM EDTHere are January's top 5:
1. Dont worry be happy The latest Xombie chapter. It's been a long six months since the last update. Chapter 7 pits Dirge against the Vulture, a mysterious battleship piloted by his otherworldly nemesis; the Xar-Ggothua. Great, great stuff. They are making this into an actual movie to be released on video you know. I wonder when it will be out?
2009self: They deleted the Xombie series after after "episode 5, part 2" for a new dvd version.
Series/Xombie You can watch the first 5 episodes here. It's really a great series. I'm sorry that he deleted half of it. Maybe he'll bring it back someday...
2. Salad Fingers Episode 7 Firth gets another cash award with his latest Salad Fingers. While digging SF finds the corpse of his younger brother Kenneth, who is back from the Great War. A war against the maggots eating his dead flesh one can only assume as Kenneth is long dead. So SF being the guy that he is, of course has him over for tea.
3. -Play More- Remember Play? Well, here is the sequel. The author revisited the sights and sounds from Play and this time he added 4 new animations and sounds to create an all new experience that's bigger and better than ever before!
4. PALADIN episode 4 I've looked at it before but while it;s well animated the plot and story seemed a bit cheesy to me so I never added it. However ow that the intro is out of the way this is starting to be a pretty darn good action movie. The Paladin heads to the Necromancer's castle and battles the minions that guard it.
- PALADIN episode 1 An evil necromancer uses an army if the undead to destroy a kingdom. the only survivors a priest and a baby. Hide out in an underground bunker where the baby grown into a man who will avenge the loss.
- PALADIN episode 2 The Paladin begins his revenge by killing all the zombies that lurk around the ruins
- PALADIN episode 3 Starts with an interesting prologue that gives the whole flash series a greater context. It then goes back the the Paladin who still must fight the zombies that surround his former village.
5. Another Day Seven Music video set to the song "Biography" by The Release. In it, a blue bunny travels a desolate and surreal dreamland while he sleeps.
- Series/Another Day The author has put together a whole series about the bunny. They are all music animations with little stories to tell. It has sad overtones and it very subdued. Nice effort!
====================================
My top 30 picks for the month (which come in no particular order):
1. Dont worry be happy A silly little music animation set to the song "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin. No story, just two guys singing the song while weird stuff happens. They don't finish the tune though.
2. The HATTA's Rant FOAMY The Hatta goes on his own rant. Talks about rap, white men acting black and other such issues. I prefer Foamy, I also like his voice better then the Hatta's.
3. A visit to grandpa A simple music animation set to the Japanese song "Angel Sanctuary (also as "Cries In The Dark" by Maaya Sakamoto. A young girl goes up a mountain to pray and remember her dead grandfather and then leaves. It's a nice little tribute for her dead grandfather.
4. Behind the Scenes @LiFe.1 This is really neat. They videotaped themselves using a camcorder and then added some special effects. The superpowers they display fit in very smoothly with the actual shots and it's very fast paced and cool looking, if short. The only real problem is that the video quality is low so everything it blurry but they wanted to keep the file size down. Ah well. Anyway, Max wants to take a break from working for a moment so he goes out but Steven doesn't take kindly to slackers.
5. Mecha Duel A music video to the song 'Haruka Kanata' by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. It's a rock type song. The animation has two players who are battling it out in a video game. Player 2 wins the first round and thing rapidly escalate to absurd levels.
6. Diablo II: The Showdown The first and only good Diablo II submission I have seen on Newgrounds. The guy that posted this actually stole it, deleted the original voices, put in his own subtitles and added a weird rock song by Fatboy Slim called "Ya Mama". Dispite this, it's still good. It was also probably made before the expantion if the game of which this is based. The story is that all five original Diablo II characters travel to the Secret Cow Level for a contest to see who can kill the most cows. If your a fan if the game you will get it quite a few in jokes but if not I think you still will not feel totally left behind.
2009self: BLEH! Deleted. Demnit. If anyone can find this animation again I'd appreciate it. I tried searching the name but that only led to a blog that came back to dead link for newgrounds. :(
7. Will You be Mine? A really basic looking animation that pulls off a really cute look for Valentines Day ad the guy tries to decide if he is brave enough to hand his potential sweaty a V-Day card. It's too short though. The song "Your too good to be true" by Frankie Valli ends way, WAY early.
8. Gladiator - stone A very short fight between two super powered stick men. Newgrounds has been getting a glut of them lately. Some sort of contest thing some people cooked up. They make their own stick man and have to battle other ones and animations with highest score wins or something.
9. how to make a game! There are plenty of tutorials out there and probably many better ones then this but it's mostly dry reading with just pictures or something. This really shows you how to make a sucky game instead of just writing it which is what I look for when I read these things. This does that. IF you get the urge to try your own hand at making flash go to "http://www.macromedia.com" and then click on get free flash player.
10. If God was one of us... A silly little animation featuring a hippy talking Jesus preaching to the crowd. They don't seem to be liking his message though. Heh!
11. KAZAHANA: The Formula Another Kazahana movie. I have showcased this series before. In today's episode, a doctor is creating a formula that will give an edge to whomever uses it in the mass battle that will soon come but there is treachery afoot. First part of a new chapter of this sprawling series (only some of which appears on Newgrounds).
12. Mortales.tv: Sometimes a creepy and grisly little black and white animation about a murdeer and the goverment agent who has been assigned to the case. We arrive in the house where the case files of the past murders is being looked over...
13. Paints A Thousand Words Music video of the song "If a picture paints a thousand words" by Bread. The song itself is very mellow and smoothing while the animation plays up this tone with a series of abstract scenes that I thought looked nice and went well with the song.
14. Nimian Flyer Legends An interesting looking game. YOU are a little fire breathing dragon and you fly continuously while trying to eat bugs and things. After doing this for a few minutes you come across a boss that you have to drop bombs or set on fire using your breath. Nice 3-D environment and a fair bit of game play to it, even if it's repetitive.
15. Qi An instrumental only music animation that shows (in a very abstract way) a story of how life force or "Qi" is born, goes through phases of desire, rejection, etc. and how it continues the cycle to rebirth. It's well done and transitions well through the phases. A nice art showcase.
16. The Thwomps This is cute. The "Thwomps" ave big levitating rocks that float up to the ceiling and wait for someone to walk underneath so they can squish them. Today a very special visitor whom they have been waiting for arrives....
- The Thwomps 2 Extending the gag from the first episode, the thwomps now have arms which they use to climb up the wall to get into position. More action as they try to get their intended victim squished. Will they succeed ? Watch and find out.
17. Thou Shalt Not Steal While running away from the police a thief wanders into a church. Will his brush with God steer him to the right path?
18. Twist of Fate Do you understand what irony is? In this short, an angel places a bet with God on a man who wins a bottlecap contest. This was part of a contest.. He had to make a short film in 2 days. As part of the rules, he was given a prop to use (a bottlecap), the theme "World of Wonder," and a line of dialogue, "Wow, vetlvet really is soft." Everything had to be original and copyright free or use with permission. It's not bad at all.
19. Theatrum Mundi An interesting animation about a guy named Brad who's applying for a new job. Unfortunately something unexpected happens inbetween his first and second interviews. The ending is kind of weird but entertaining overall.
20. pretty dead things a funky looking, short animation that focuses in on two flowers and the brightly multi-colored backgrounds. It has a soothing little instrumental guitar (?) song playing to accompany it.
21. Clivo's ordeal of funnies a 34 second animation starring Clivo who has 10 seconds to be funny or else! Exceptional graphics.
2009self: this animation isn't working properly but doesn't seem to be deleted... Maybe I'll contact the author at some point and see what's up.
22. Project I.V. a somewhat shortish fight movie. A woman with some kind of metallic face mask that seems wielded to her body has to take out a room full of opponents. It's well animated but no real plot. Just a long intro and then a fight scene in a room and that's it.
23. Shadows fall Weird little game. Easy to play though. Despite the bad controls and no sound effects. It could have been better but I liked it's creepy atmosphere and spooky visuals enough to give it a pass. The music doesn't have a loop though. A shame because when it stops the game is less interesting.
24. Final Sustenance This is a really silly and short RPG in the mold of the popular Final Fantasy series. Join our hero as he goes on a search for Pop Tarts. The voices used for the characters are especially ridiculous. Heh.
25. Fireworks simulation Very pretty. This is a simulation that allows you to experiment with both color and physics to create a unique, customised fireworks show.
26. Future is wonderful ! An oddly catchy foreign song plays with a very weird and slightly disturbing animation to accompany it. Strangely compelling.
27. Goomba Vol. 3 Another Super Mario Brother's cartoon. The fight scenes are not the most exciting but it's well done and it's a change to have the lowest level enemy from the games being the hero of the movie. Anyway, Goomba is innocently taking a break from his mission, when a Toad assassin shows up at his doorstep! Goomba is thrown back into the hunt, and once again begins to pursue Princess Peach.
28. Lemon Tree Video A music video of the song "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden. The animation is decent enough and the it goes welll with the song.
29. The Liar A very well done animation split up into three parts. The plot is whoever can prove themselves the most outrageous liar will receive from the king a golden apple. Many come to the king and attempt to give a good lie to him.
- Liar 2 Another citizen attempts to impress the king with a lie.
- Liar 3 Finally The Liar for whom the movie is named after makes his appearance. Will he manage to get the golden apple?
30. The Mouse (true story) I found this rather amusing. A man catches a mouse that has taken up residence in his home. Once he has the rodent he decides to kill it in a manner that ends up being very unfortunate for both him... and the mouse. Is it based on true events as the title says or is it an urban legend? You decide.
===================
And here are 5 older flashes that are worth a look:
1. "Target Practice" This entry was submitted by Jeffrey James Weise who was a high school student of Red Lake Minnesota is responsible for the shooting deaths of his grandfather and his grandfather's partner and theRed Lake High School massacre, a school shooting in which he killed seven people and injured more than a dozen others before committing suicide. Very scary because while most violent animations are fake this guy was making something that he planned to carry out in real life.
2. -NoX- Very nice. A mysterious thief gets away with the goods in this suspenseful medieval romp!
3. The Necromancer Episode 1 This is a pretty darn good action flash series. Although the intro is a bit long and boring. There should have been a skip function. It's on every episode. The voice action and the animation isn't the best either but it has a well thought out plot and story, even if it's bare bones. It needs time to fill it out. Anyway, the Necromancer makes his entrance. He buys a horse and goes to kill a group of people who are desecrating the ruins of his fallen homeland. His quest to destroy the Madassarian Empire and to resurrect his old Parthollian Empire.
- The Necromancer Episode 2 In this episode, the Necromancer meets another mage, has an encounter with Satan and fights off a small army.
- The Necromancer Episode 3 The Necromancer is haunted by his past by a new enemy. This episode also sets up for a huge battle which will take place in the next.
- The Necromancer Episode 4 big battle royal between the Necromancer and Madassarian forces. The Necromancer heads off alone to kill the rulers of Madassarian
- The Necromancer Episode 5 The final. Will the Necromancer triumph and destroy Madassarian?
4. G.I. Joe - The Other Half Great parody of a G.I. Joe service announcement. Some kids are kicking on another child just because he wears glasses. Let Duke show explain why that isn't cool.
5. Tactics Core Demo Game! How could I have not gotten around to posting this? It's Probably the slickest tactics game ever made in Flash! you have a group of people on a board and you move them around and have them attack the computer led group. It's an RPG style and you both take turns and move one person each. I've spent a fair bit of time playing. It's not too hard to figure out and a lot of fun give it a try and here's a tip when your healer is the last person standing on your side he becomes a super powerful, if not unbeatable if sufficiently outnumbered, character.
And that's it for January. is. This is where I started tiring out on these updates. I had all the flashes but it's such a pain to organize, whittle the number down to thirty and do a write up of everything. I keep putting it off. Although I still add them, even all these years later. I keep up watching many, many, newground flashes.
Till next time.

Posted by TomaO2 Aug. 23, 2009 @ 4:20 AM EDTHere are December's Top 5:
1. The Ultimate Showdown This is one wild music animation. The song is about what if every hero and villain ever created (even Chuck Norris) battled it out in the ultimate showdown. The animation, while amateurish, tells the story of the song perfectly. It won first place for a reason. It's catchy and fun and if you give it a try, I am sure you will like it too.
2. Retarded Animal Babies 14 Ugh, the Latest installment of this series. The characters make a shit pie, discuss what they want to do with life. Fast foreward to the future and we see what their fates really hold.
3. 8-Bit Theater Part 5 The latest installment of the flash animation adaptation of my all time FAVORITE webcomic. This is gold! Showing issues #31 to #35, BM finds Fighter and along with their new leader Thief (who Fighter had signed bith his and BM freedom to) they now have to pick a forth member to make a large enough group to go on a rescue mission for the king of the land, who's daughter has been kidnapped.
- 8-bit Theater 1 Showing issues #1 to #6, Black Mage and Fighter are searching for the 'Cave of no Return' to acquire the armor of invincibility. Will they succeed?
- 8-bit Theater 2 Showing issues #7 to #14, BM and Fighter have several random encounters with monsters they must defeat in order to get to their hometown of Cornilia.
- 8-bit Theater 3 Showing issues #15 to #22, BM and Fighter have arrived in the city but fighter has foolishly given a con man their money. Well, BM isn't going to stand for THAT!
- 8-bit Theater 4 Showing issues #23 to #30, BM meets an increadibly attractive magic user named White Mage. Watch him use his smooooth pick up lines as he tries to win her over.
- Nuklear Power This is a webcomic parody of the original Final Fantasy game for Nindendo. As I said from the start, the animations here are a direct port from this and the author only gets better as he goes along on this thrice weekly updated webcomic. There are over 600 strips and counting. If you liked the animations, check out the source material.
4. DCK: A Very Klunk X-Mas With the Ghost of Christmas Disease, Clunk travels to another dimention to see what life would have been like if he was never born. Well animated and clever.
- DCK: Cycon Dooby Don't Another parody, this time of Scooby Doo as you have never seen him before. In it, an entire orphanage is abucted! Can the gang bust the ghost haunting the nearby abandoned Neverland Ranch? It's adult orientated and not for the easily offended. Not bad, the Dyke comments they kept shooting at Velma got old fast though.
5. weebl and bob - paper Great music parody of A-Ha's song "Take On Me", if a little short. It gets cut off, unfortunatly. The animation is simple, just two talking eggs discussing things and singing a song.
- Series / weebl and bob if you liked that you might want to check out other animations of the Weebl and bob series. Not my favorite but there IS a suprising amount of variety that you can get out the a series that revolves around the adventures of 2 talking egg friends (one of whom can't even move on his own).
--------------------------------------
My top 30 picks (in no particular order) for the month:
1. sunday Music video that has a simple animation that still goes very well with a great song. "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5.
2. A Nature Lesson A short little funny that has a guy showing off the law of gravity by dropping a rock. The presentation doesn't quite work as planned though. It gets bloody at the end.
3. BlondStar Do you like Blond jokes? You'll love this. Ever heard of OnStar and seen their commercials? This is like that. The audio itself has been floating around the internet for awhile and the guy didn't really do much with the visuals to add to the sound but this story of a poor blond that got help after she locked herself INSIDE her car (and I am not talking about the trunk) is a real hoot.
4. BulletTime Game! This is a reaction type game where you watch a gun and when it shoots you have to click the mouse in order to dodge the bullet. The gun is then moved closer and closer with every success so you can see how far away you need to be in order to have a chance of avoiding a bullet if someone shoots at you. Never know when that kind of knowledge will come in handy.
5. --Motion-- Claymation! Completely random, though still interesting, imagry highlights this neat looking animation that is done to the song "Last Night" by The Strokes.
6. A Friendly Gesture XMAS! I thought this one was pretty cute. There is a snowball war war going on between the moles and a rabbit when a Yeti appears and takes them both out. As has been stated before, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. It even has an unexpected moral for the end of the story.
7. Samurai Champloo: SK Pt.1 A neat samurai animation. There is a samurai master killer on the loose. Meanwhile our heroes are doing odd jobs to pay for rent when the sudden the offer of a reward for this murderer seems more appealing then chopping firewood.
- Samurai Champloo: SK Pt.2 The killer and main character face off.
8. F I S H I N G This is a short but still nice looking flash from the far-east. It has a different style to it then most. A small boy is fishing but when he catches a fish it begs for it's life because it's only a child. The boy's reaction to this event dill decide how Karma treats him later.
9. FFF: Shodown -Chapter #13 The lastest installment of one of my all time favorite series and it is the best looking of the bunch. In fact, I think this is the best looking 16-bit sprite movie I have ever seen. It divides between a conversation and a one on one action fight that happened right after the talk. That just blows me away. It's not as fast pased as other battles but more then makes up for that in style.
- Series/Final Fighting Fantasy It's pretty well a movie here taken together. The animation and story has vastly improved from the first episode and the author loves experimenting with the medium. You just never know what to expect. Make sure you got some time. I'm pretty sure watching everything will take close to an hour (perhaps longer) by this point. The basic plot is that all the heroes from the first 7 Final Fantasy games are thrown together in a grand battle royal that very few will survive. It started with just the fighting but as it goes on it develops into one heck of a unique story. If you have anjoyed any of the early FF games you really have to watch this. The third part is still my favorite. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.
2009self: This is still the latest installment... I don't think he'll ever finish it
10. German Hardcore Porn This is interesting. The author took the soundtrack from a german porn flick and used it as dialouge in this short animated movie that is about a woman getting a tooth pulled at the dentist. It's in German and no translation is provided but I'm not sure I WANT to know what they are saying anyway. I think a good switch was pulled off here.
11. eGoing Down to Newgrounds Someone wrote and sang a tribute song that's all about Newgrounds. Kind of a country sound going for it. A bunch of people made music videos for it. Currently, this is the best of the lot.
12. HP:and the Sorcerers Bone A thoroughly silly Harry Potter animation between Harry and Dumbledore. He tells Dumbledore about Voldemort being back. Dumbledore knows but doesn't care. Things go downhill for Harry from there.
13. Maganic Wars OutSite v1.0 GAME! One of those card type games like Magic: The Gathering but simple. You get attack and defense cards, you use them to help kill your opponent. Easy to pick up but still engrossing. I found it an enjoyable way to spend a bit of time.
14. Tactical Assassin Game! It's a shooter where you have to snipe the correct targets to pass the level. Much better then your usual shooter game and has great atmosphere. Give it a try.
15. Trichinosis Ignorance is bliss. This animation is very in your face. It take the "This Little Piggy" poem and spins it in disturbing ways. Even the song, "Sandman" is a disturbing remix. The end of it a good point about the developed world's over consumptiuon compared to the poor. The author knows there are no simple solutions but he wants people to think about the problems. Not my favorite and it's not gonna inspire me to become a philanthropist but it's always good to remember the world outside of your bubble.
16. The Little Buzzers Ep 5 Another cute animation of the Buzzers. The Sedrick and Duncan sit down to enjoy some lunch, but there is treachery afoot.
- Series / The Little Buzzers Check out the whole series at this page. As I write this there are 6 altogether (yes, that means one more past the episode listed here) but I am sure there will be more later.
17. Zelda: Heroic Rage 7 Good Zelda action movie. Part 7 of a series but really... it stands on it's own as the first part of a new series. Gannon has been killed AGAIN (wonder how long that will last) awhile back, Link has married Zelda and they are raising a child but evil still lurks. This movie is about Link and his son, and the continuing war with evil that Link.
18. [CC] A very Boring Xmas Xmas! Silly little Christmas animation. Everyone is having fun at the the Christmas party except for Strawberry Clock. You just know he's gonna ruin things for the group. ;)
19. Orlando's Joint #1 An interesting and well done first trilogy of a future series. It shows life in the black ghetto neighborhood. In it, Orlando shows up for work late, stoned... and things go downhill from there.
- Orlando's Joint #2 The Coffee Joint's closed and Orlando's ready to chill, until he gets some shocking news!
- Orlando's Joint #3 End of the trilogy. Orlando experiences divine... infestation.
20. At Least I'm Alive Impressive visuals are shown in this 3D animation, staring a lonely robot that works at a kebab shop. He's big, old and unloved. Kind of sad because he tries to hard but things just never improve.
21. better together A really sweet musical animation. The song is "Better Together" by Jack Johnson. cartoon is basically drawn, no color and a minimalist look but it blends together quite well.
22. Genevieve Another high quality, 8-minute, animated storybook, featuring Genevieve... an extremely spoiled little girl who ruled the world for a short time a few decades back. What? No little girl EVER ruled the world you say? Well, watch this to find out the truth!
23. willy the walrus Willy the Walrus loved peas but couldn't eat them... A great little, light-hearted, rhyming animation on the lines of a Dr. Zeus cartoon.
24. Don't Trip A music animation "I think I can" by The Pillows. I wasn't sure about the song at first but it grew on me. It's got quite a bit of action and fighting in it but is also kind of metaphysical. The plot can be hard to follow. From what I gather, the pill that the girl (with the scalpel looking weapon) is fighting is symbolic of the tRip a boy is taking, which apperently is a rather common drug that many people use. He is bleeding from the ears because his body is taking damage while fighting off the tRip, specifically his brain. Apperently she got the idea when taking medication she didn't find it was working too well and thought about doing something where the body and a mind altering medicine fought ( I think Trip is suppost to alter your mind).
25. Summoning SANTA FOAMY! Germaine wants to know if there really is a Santa and tries a spell to summon jolly old Saint Nick.
- Exotic Chocolates If this was the only Foamy episode for the month I would not have added it <shudders>. Germaine receives an unusual (unusual= gross) box of chocolates (they come from a sex shop) from an admirer. I cannot stress enough how much I did NOT like this. Don't watch unless you like that sort of thing.
2009self: This is the point where Foamy really went downhill for me. Why did the author have to have so much sex and grossness added?
26. Jim Meets an Alien A laid back guy named Jim has his first encounter with an extraterrestrial and he is very, VERY bossy and annoying. It's kind of cute.
27. X-Men: House of M part 3 Part three of the House of M parody. Fans of Marvel will love this. In it, Scarlet Witch remakes the world and our heroes stand around waiting for stuff to happen.
- X-Men: House of M part 4 The climactic battle of Everyone vs. Magnetoand Wanda makes babies. Nifty!
28. LL - Christmas Goodbye XMas! Water Lock grows an instant Christmas tree for the holiday. It's a short funny that's worth a chuckle.
29. -MASS- A cartoon that shows what happends when cheapness and rivalry among artists take a turn for the worst. Can you pick up all the symbolism? Nicely made and different. Also kind of sad. It's worth a look.
30. Megaman vs Heatman Another tribute to MegaMan and the the Robot masters he has to fight. I've psoted a few of these by now by different authors. If you remember those you'll know what to expect but it's still a fun, action filled ride.
======================================
Christmas is a huge day for Newgrounds and so I dedicate this month's other 5 animations to 2005's Christmas collection. Check out other ones that I have not posted in this post at
Collections / Holidays / Christmas / Christmas 2005 Ho ho ho!
1. Snowy the Frostman Xmas! Ebolaworld makes some of the best parodies I have seen. Do you remember those old Frosty The Snowman Christmas specials that are on every December? Well imagine that, only this time Frosty Will devour your head while he's stealing your heart. Hilarious! Achaachaachachacha!
2. Under the Mistletoe Chistmas! Hands down my favorite of the Christmas themed ones for this month. It's a slightly naughty Christmas song animation. The animation was christmas card professional looking and the song itself is really sweet and pleasant to listen to. This is my favorite song of the month. give it a listen.
3. a Lim and Richi Xmas Christmas! Two friends get ready for the Sock Genie to come visiting on the night of Christmas Eve. It's got some great dialogue to go with an unusual and interesting story.
4. Dangers of christmas X-Mas! One of those 50's style informational cartoons. These sorts of things are always so silly. This time it's warning you of the dangers of insolent children and the horrors of not being able to discipline him through beatings. Shocking I know.
5. Lazlo "Saves" Christmas Xmas! Santa has gotten stuck in a chimney but luckaly Lazio, a gerbil with personality disorders, is around to save him. For a price, of course. The rescue will get ugly. Heheh!
That's it for December. Stay tuned for next month!
Till next time...
Updated: 08/23/09 4:53 AM 0 comments | Log in to comment! | Share this!NG Timewarp, Issue 009: Links to flashes that I LOVED during Nov05
Posted by TomaO2 Aug. 21, 2009 @ 4:17 AM EDTHere are November's top 5:
1. littlefoot One of the best looking animations on Newgrounds, you can tell the author is a professional animator. This is the first part in a two-part story that takes place in the forrest. Bigfoot's son Littlefoot has gotten lost and is wandering around when our main character Bitey finds him. Being the kind, helpful soul that he is, Bitey decides to have some fun at Littlefoot's expense. Will Bigfoot show up in time?
- Bitey of Brackenwood The first of the Brackenwood series, a halpless Fat Sacks (you will understand the name when you watch this) is sitting alone in a forrest of many fantastical creatures. Then Bitey comes along to play with it... not in that nice way though. Bitey is, in the words of the author ,"a complete bitch ". He then goes to harass the local witch. Not much story but very nicely done.
- Prowlies at the River The Brackenwood prowlies are usually harmless, but when provoked they can be very dangerous, especially in numbers and wouldn't you know that Bitey is about to meet up with 5 as he goes to the river for a drink...
2. eBaums world dot com Alright ebaumsworld.com/ is a website that gets submissions from various sources. Not unlike Newgrounds does. There is a difference though between taking all the funny content on the internet and compiling it on one site (as NG does) giving FULL credit to the authors... and taking all the content, removing the original signatures, and adding your own Ebaums World signature. When you submit to Ebams, you sign a disclaimer that gives them ownership of your work. For this reason and a few others (such as an apperent infestation of spyware and even just finding funny stuff on the internet and taking it if it doesn't say copyrighted. Again, unlike NG that only shows what is submitted by the author) someone wrote a neat and very catchy sounding music video protesting the website. I think it may have merit, if I make something, I don't want that work to be sold to some company just because I wanted to show it off there. So give this a listen.
3. The New Guy A short, nicely animated flash about robot that is in charge of a sales department. There's a new guy and he's disrupting things for everyone. How will the boss deal with him?
4. The Touchtone Genius Music video about a guy who sings a song and uses the number pad of his touchtone phone to give melody to the song. I am completely unable to hear the keypad noises on my computer personally but the author actually paid to have this song made by a quirky composer and if you go to songstowearpantsto.com/, scroll down to song #219 and load it you can hear the audio in full. It's a different sound, that's for sure and the idea is intriguing as I have never heard of someone composing unique songs from a telephone before, though I know you could if so inclined.
5. A Midnight Snack A off the wall, wacky animation about a little pink guy named Kirby and his needlessly hyper violent and reckless attempt to get himself a midnight snack. If only people could act with a LITTLE bit of common sense. Heh!
The Rest:
1. ++Nes Collab++ a great series of tributes to 4 old school NES (Nintendo, first generation) games. I laughed more to the Kung Fu parody then any other animation on my top 30 list this month. Two thumbs up.
2. -=another random battle=- One stick-man against the relentless hoards out to kill him. Yea, yea, you've seen this before but they are still fun and the action is smooth. Besides it has a funny and unexpected ending to it that made me laugh.
3. Yeah Toast!!! An exceedingly silly music animation set to Bob & Tom's "Yea Toast!!! that is done in a doodle-esc style. I think the author or a friend of his made this themselves. Amateurish but still amusing.
4. Finding Harold A late but still great Halloween submission that didn't make it onto my October list. You'd probably find it if you went through the Halloween submissions but after some thought I decided to add it here anyway. The story, in a man's misdirection to find his place, he stumbles upon the thing all dead walkers love most....
5. How to make a good Flash I sometimes have wished I would make my very own flash animation, win awards and get the general acclaim that I have seen others manage but HOW? No worries, after watching this animation I am now prepared to make something that will... leave an impression anyway <grins>.
6. (2005)In 3 Minutes Clay! Another Knox production with his trademark blue men and humor. What if you had 3 minutes to live? well..you wouldnt do the krap THIS guy does! ENJOY!
- Bungee Jumping Time! Another Knox presentation. Some klaymen go bungee jumping..you know you wanna see this. <grins>
7. King of Buttons Game! This is the best button clicking game I have ever played. There are a bunch of modes including reflex (how fast you can react when you see the button appear), endurance (how long can you keep clicking) and time attack (how many times you can click within a given time frame). Simple yet addicting.
- King of Buttons 2 the sequel. Same sort of stuff but with a few new modes and anti cheating additions added. Might be better just to go to this instead.
8. Bra Bashing FOAMY! GERMAINE GIVES UP ON LOOKING FOR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING AND REVOLTS!!! Burn the bras BURN THEM. Heheh.
9. Lemmings Very cute animation with a nice minimalist look. A bunch of lemmings are waiting to jump off the cliff but the one at the front of the row is holding things up... Enjoy the odd tale of the little critters.
10. Heads, shoulders, knees.. Music animation set to the classic children's song "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes". I havn't heard this song in so very long. This submission is crisp, has good art, and a funny theme that's rated G for the whole familly.
11. Self-Portrait Just as the title says. A short 15 second intro to a self-portrait the author drew in one shot (heh, you'll get that little joke when you watch the flash). It's interesting and very creepy at the same time.
12. Stone Tablets Brother Josiah has been working on a sacred sacrament who's rules would be followed by the entire tribe they are a part of. He wrote it down and now asks two of his fellow brothers from the order to get their opinions. I have to say they gave their thoughts with more tact then I would have. <smirks>
13. the bill 'o' rights a VERY stylish and nifty animation that was done as a school project. The author had to present the USA's bill of rights in a unique way. He got a 100% on this, come and see why.
14. Star Ball GAME! I have seen more then a few Breakout style games in the past year at Newgrounds but I think this is be best one ghaphic and control wise. Move a platform from side to side so you can bounce the ball up and break the bricks. Get power-ups, avoid the bombs that sometimes drop down. When all the bricks are gone you move up to the next level. Hours of simple, addictive fun are to be had here.
15. The Gift.. A slow but sweet animation that was done to a too short, sad sounding, piano melody. Not much going in in this but if your willing to give it a chance you might find it worthwhile. A boy is sitting down alone and he picks a flower of which half the petals get blown away making it incomplete, like the boy. Must it always be this way?
16. who goes there? An interesting horror animation. In part one of the series, a security guard is trapped in a bunker with strange creatures crawling around. Will he send the emergensy signal or die trying.? Find out here.
- Who goes there? Part 2 A small band of soldiers move into the base. To rescue the trapped guard I believe but are they too late?
- Who Goes There? Part 3 The guard is given important infromation by the monsters while the soldiers continue to look for him, find out more about the strange beings ... and survive this nightmare.
- Who Goes There? Part 4 the security guard toes to get some weapons while the soldiers learn more about the monsters they are fighting or try to... The monsters are coming and they are hungry.
17. NG 1337 Translator! What is 1337 or leet speak? Basically it it the transformation of letters into numbers or symbols. It can be quite hard to make but with this translator making leet speak becomes child's play (ex. H becomes |-|; E becomes 3; HELLO becomes |-|3|_|_0) Amaze and annoy your friends with the most usless translator EVER. Just don't try and translate back. For some reason that doesn't quite work...
18. Conan VS Kindergaten Kop A wonderfully done and amusing political movie about Arnold Schwarzenegger and how he might handle an issue that has arisen during his governing of California. Specifically the state's infamous kid prisons. Arnold debates with two of his movie personas, Conan and the Kindergarten Cop, to find the best solution. Watch it and see if YOU think they come up with the answer.
19. 3 Dudes And A Puppy - Ep1 In this first of a potential series, Dude 1 asks Dude 2 to look after his puppy.Soon after Dude 1 leaves though... the puppy dissapears. Can Dudes 2 and 3 find it before something bad happens? This pilot is 8 minutes long, and full of comedy and confusion, so enjoy it!
20. Charlie the Unicorn Now here is a movie that revels in it's poor animation. A very different looking with it's brightly covered pastels. the real treat though is the audio and the author's twisted mind. Poor Charlie is forced to accompany to other annoying unicorns to Candy Mountain. You'll never guess what happens when they get there.
21. Alcoholics Anonymous The author made a 30 second short that could be used as an advert on TV for a serious issue, something that could help change someone's life. He chose to do this animation based on alcoholics anonymous. Simple yet effective. Take a look.
22. Annabel A music video that the author created himself. Simple graphics that still go well with this weird song he created. Few people realise that Satan had a daughter, and that her name was Annabel. Fewer still realise there's a song about it. Well allow me to enlighten you...
23. Artext And now for something completely different. Sometimes known as ascii art, this animation is a freeform set completely in text... there are no graphics or other shapes. No story, just complete randomness. Take a look, I hope you find it entertaining,
24. ATU:Delusions of Grandeur In this first of a possible series, the universe is very desolate, except for one small blue orb. Our alien friend has found it apparently, but what are her true intentions? Kind of slow, very intriguing though without a single line of dialogue, it still encompasses what is going on. The visual, color palette has a mellow and soothing tone and the animation was solid and adds to the sense of desolation. A bit short though. You really don't know what's going on with anything by the end. Still I found something very ethereal and appealing about this. I look foreword to the next installment.
- _Across the universe_ A sort of prequel to the above movie, even though it has little or nothing to do with it other than the main character they both share (after making this, the author decided to evolve this first submission into a story). It's a music animation set to the Beatles' song "Across The Universe". The animation doesn't go the entire length of the song but you get to hear the music in it's entirety. Everything I said (graphic wise) for the other animation fits here too. Good stuff.
25. Canadian Nookie Funny, adult cartoon about Canadian Nookie, which is a safe sex concept the author hopes will have a lasting impression.
26. CC - Clockification Mineral Water Clock has an appointment with King Strawberry to become clockified but first he must pass a few simple tests. Heh, heh.
27. Clam by the bus A short little funny on the value of mom's for their annoying... erm angelic brats. I MEAN KIDS! It gave me a good chuckle.
28. Drakojan Skies Mission 1 Game! Superb, professional looking, side scrolling shooter with a great theme and even a bit of story too it. It's not normally my thing but when they make it THIS good you have to take notise. The game is divided into 3 parts that are all pretty much the same to play them all.
- Drakojan Skies Mission 2 Second level
- Drakojan Skies Mission 3 Third level.
29. -Faceless- Tribute to the Holocaust. It is a result of a project the author had for english. In his class he read the book "Night", by Elie Wiesel. He then had to make a artist responce on the book, and this is what we made. He only had three days to do it so it's not as polished as it could be but the underlying message comes through quite clear.
30. Groovy! Music animation set to Simon & Garfunkel's "The 59th Street Bridge Song" (also known as "Feeling Groovy"). They erased the last verse if the short song though. Would have been nice if they had done the whole thing. Oh well, it's a random nonsense movie which is basically entirely violence. Follow this man on his feel-good adventure around town, looking for fun and feeling groovy.
31. Way of the Jedi: Volume 3 An extra, I kind of wanted to not use it as the stick figure animation was absolutely atrocious but it had good visuals otherwise. The sound effects are spot on and the end fight scene with the soldiers and then the fellow Jedi taking on the Sith fighter in that top down perspective was one of the smoothest little fight sequences I have seen on NG. No story or even dialogue as such. The Sith's ship gets taken in and the Sith then must fight his way through various challenges. I really wish the people in here were created with the care that the rest of the animation is.
And here are 5 older picks that are worth a look:
1. Windows Noises This is really neat. The guy took a bunch of the default Windows noises, modified them and then played them together in various musical ways.
2. britney, britney, britney Not a really good animation but I want to show it to you because this is almost psychic. Almost three years before Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Superbowl this animation was made. In it, Janet is upset because Britney Spears is getting too much attention and plots how to raise her profile.
3. FBI: Paris Sex Tape I thought if I was going to show off one animation parody of a celebrity's "accidental" public nudity I would show off another. Paris Hilton's sex tape has been just released on the internet and Federal Agent Simms has gathered a team of men to help contain the damage. It's a decent parody with some cutting insight.
4. Chipmunks Gangsta Rap This is a fantastic music animation but also very, very dark. If the idea of seeing Alvin and the Chipminks as violent, murderous junkies bent on revenge for how success in the 80's absolutely ruined their lives you might give this a pass (I'll admit I cringed a bit during this, especially during the torture of Dave) but if you can take it, you will really enjoy this. The author really did the source material credit.
5. The Icecream Machine Inspired by a true story. A boy has given an ice-cream machine some money but it's not giving the poor kid his rightfully purchased goods and on top of that it begins taunting him. What follows is an an almost epic battle of man vs ice-cream machine. It's really amusing and well made without resorting to violence like so many animations when power struggles happen. Highly recommended viewing.
That's all for November. Stay tuned for next month's exciting installment.
Till next time...
NG Timewarp, Issue 008: Links to flashes that I LOVED during Oct05
Posted by TomaO2 Mar. 14, 2009 @ 2:02 AM EDTPhew! All done with yet another collection of Anime. Enjoy!
Here is October's top 5:
1. Captain Capitalism Inspired by John Sutherland's "social engineering" cartoons from the 50's, Captain Capitalism is the Cold War's Hottest hero...saving us from Intergalactic Communism. It's a well animated short that seems to have a "Ren & Stimpy" cartoons influence. Anyway small children have heard the F-word by Vice president Dick Cheney after continually annoying him. It's up to the Cap to explain all about curse words and when it is and is not appropriate to use them. It's actually pretty hilarious.
- Piggy Bankko The sequel. In this episode, the Cold War's hottest hero teaches a misguided youth about the dangers of saving money. I am really liking this series!
2. Burnt Face Man 5 Firth will keep winning these things forever I think. Still, it's my personal favorite of his many series. In this episode, Burnt Face Man decides to retire after being upstaged by Slightly Bruised Man. Doing this has interesting ramifications. Will Burnt Face Man EVER return to fighting crime. You will just have to watch and find out.
3. Flathead Symphony Another one of those musicals where we take a singular sound (mostly actual instruments this time) and then add another and another and another until you have a little symphony going. These are always interesting to listen to I feel.
4. Our First Halloween A nice looking and funny animation with above par voice acting. On to the story, it's Halloween and two friends are dressing up to get ready for the kids that will be trick or treating at their door. I loved the garbage fairy costume idea. If only that is what really happened <sighs>.
5. BadGuys2:AppeasingTheGods Two adventurers attempt to get a secret jewel but are captured by the natives. Don't worry though that's just when the show begins. So so animation but plenty of cute jokes. Worth a look. It a kind of sequal to...
- BadGuys Short animation that is about 2 soldiers that are manning a nuclear silo. Chaos ensues when unruly townspeople come to bother them.
- BadGuys3:BatteredMonsters The two nameless guys are giving out candy to the trick or treaters. Not as good as the other two but still not too bad.
- Bad Guys Go To Hell An amusing conversation on how some people hate poorly animated cartoons marks the third addition to the Bad Guys Series. This time the author decided to focus on the the villain characters and we follow their journey as they to... TO HELL!!!
- Down At Juice Bar Now on it's fifth episode, I can say that every one is self contained. There doesn't seem to be any overreaching plot here. Just a bunch of weird stuff that happens the the same group of people. Again we concentrate on the "villains" of the series. After a hard day of world conquering what could be better then to go down to the juice bar with friends and have a nice drink of... POTATO juice? I thought this one was really cute.
The rest:
1. Not MTV's Fault This is a 30 second long public service ad for greater awareness of AIDS in India. Wish it was longer as it was very stylishly done.
2. Duck n' Cover! It's an animation for school children on how to protect themselves if an Atomic bomb hits. It's black and white with that old time feel to it. All audio in this movie was taken from the original Duck and Cover, released in 1952. This was serious business at the time...
3. - Only Gay Eskimo - Great music video for the song "Only Gay Eskimo" by Corky And The Juice Pigs. The animation is very good too and it goes well with the song.
4. Stick City Another Sin City animation. I am positive they ripped the audio right from the movie in this scene. It's a detailed, faithful and smooth running stick version of the scene when the hero is confronted by a gang of hired killers.
5. A's to Z's Tutorial GAME! This is a tutorial that will probably be useful to many people that want to become internet assholes. One example tip: "P is for Pwned!- It's a great word to use after you win a game. Make sure to gloat lots."
6. Bees Music video set to this catchy, sort of jazzy song about bees. The author created it himself. It's a fun, watchable, decently animated flash. Give it a look.
7. Bush Punk'd Bush hasn't found those weapon's of mass destruction yet and at a press conference the TRUE reason why one is revealed. Good, short, little funny.
2008self: Author deleted it for some reason. Too bad.
8. Canadas Really Big! Music video featuring The Bare Naked Ladies singing "Canada's Really Big" The song is absolutely hilarious and while the animation isn't quite up to snuff it engages you enough to add to the music.
9. CNN: The Special Report THis takes old video game sprite characters and casts them. In a CNN style news show. Among the stories are we alone in the universe, Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach AGAIN and In Hyrule an old man was killed by someone upset about being sold a wooden stick for a weapon.
- CNN: The Special Report 2 Human cloning, Bomberman goes to court and Donkey Kong smuggling cocaine are among the stories in the second edition.
10. Starfire GAME! Fantastic scrolling shooter game where you can customize your ship. If you like that type of thing you will love this.
11. CT: "the Fated battle" This is a fantastic animation tribute the game Crono Trigger. In it, the last battle between Magus and Crono's party is shown.
12. Daily2oon SE: Hun A short music video Called "Hunting the Hun" by Arthur Fields. This song is OLD as it was a propaganda song for killing Germans in WWI. The animation fits in quite well. Give it a watch.
13. Dude where is my face ?! GAME! This is really silly. Some guy puts some pictures of a friend out to display and asks people to photoshop his face on other pictures. By the time all was said and done over 300 pictures had this person's face added. From presidents to supermodels, his face was put on everything. This is basiclly a slide show where you can look at all the nutty things his face was added too. Good for a chuckle and to see just how easy it is to make things that are not so.
14. Virtavalta This one creeped me out but in a good way. Scary and tense without being violent or giving those GOTYA moments. A man is fiddling with his remote when suddenly it makes a scary weight lifter appear. Every further use of the remote makes it come closer and causes the mans tension to rise. What will become of him? Take a look at the animation.
15. The Future (5SOP) Drop dead gorgeous 3D animation. It is extremely detailed, especially all the reflections off the metal surfaces. We can even see the ceiling and EVERYTHING is purple. The plot is this, in the future we still make M&M candies. Come, see how it will be done.
16. Insanity + 1 Interesting claymation. The Clayman in this has become insane. Come, see the world through his distorted lenses as he tries to work his way around the craziness intensifies.
17. Validium Animated Series It's a cartoon about guys in a band. A real band the characters are all cartoon comparisons of real people. However, I don't think these guys have made any songs yet. In this first of a possible series the band is sitting around in a coffee shop, ranting about things.
18. -Little Room- Short, music animation video set to White Stripes' Little Room. Very good animation on this one and it matches the song's lyrics very well. A mechanic builds something good but decided that she could do better with more resourses. A good idea in theory... Heh!
19. late night shopping Wierd little music animation video about late night shopping. I didn't like it at first but as I kept playing it the song grew on me. Take a listen
20. The Good and The Evil A touching little short set to ethereal music and has plenty of symbolism. The figure is born with a clean heart and he must walk the path of his life journey and recognize good and evil. He has opportunities to do good or to do evil in his life and when he dies his place will be determined by those actions.
21. NASA Report: 10th Planet Short little funny. Scientists have found a tenth planet in the solar system and you will never guess what's on it.
22. Renaissance Music video set to Kansas' song "Dust In The Wind". Renaissance protrays the artist's anger against the growing individualism and materialism of the last few years. It's very well done piece that is is made to make you think with it's subjective imagery. The author offers no answers to what the scenes mean. He prefers it if YOU come up with your own.
23. The Gnome: LSD Trippy music animation video set to Pink Floyd's "The Gnome". I really liked this song and while the animation isn't the best (though faithful to the lyrics) the neatest thing about this was the constantly changing neon colors that really gave this submission a drugged out feel to it. Which of course is the point!
24. The Pickup Game GAME! This game is like an instructional on how to pick up girls at the bar. It's based on a book that it has links too. While it's slow and confusing (you have a plane that you need to hit the correct pictures while avoiding the bad ones. Unfortunately you are not told which is which and then you have to start all the way at the beginning again.) It's still interesting.
25. Yet Another Day Music video that uses some Asian song. Very fast paced and well animated snippets of a girls day around the house. Then it set itself above the pack with a nice little, feel good message that made me smile and add it to this list.
26. KAZAHANA: Face To Face The KAZAHANA series is not a Newgrounds exclusive you you have interest in looking into that check out the extras in this animation. The the over reaching plot that ties it all together is there is a treasure that will be given to the last Kazanana family member. Currently there are a few hundred so they start killing each other off. In this self contained episode, a lonely, porn watching, sad sack of a man has been targeted for elimination by one of his clan members.
27. A Theft of Funny (TTA) Do you remember the Tiny Toon cartoon series? It was basically kid versions of the Bugs, Daffy , Porkey and the rest (who still show up as teachers). Well, the author of this submission obviously has a deep appreciation of that series. This is an excellent tribute to it. The voices are similar to the actual series, the sound effects are spot on, the personalities feel right and the animation is VERY faithfull to the look of the actual cartoon (though a bit more crudely done). I tip my hat to the man that made this.
28. Justice League: Countdown Another great animation that makes fun of the ridiculous superhero comic plots that keep coming up. This time we make fun of the Countdown story line from DC. Apperently, memories have been altered of superheroes and supervillians to protect secrets. Will the lies and deception be uncovered.
- Marvel Villains Assemble This time the author is making fun of the sillyness that are supervillians.
- X-Men: House of M part 2 In the second part The Avengers and The X-Men compete in a game show to determine who will save Wanda from herself.
29. Scaramush! Scaramush! Music video set to Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody". Many people like using this song but this is an excellent animation going with it. It takes the form of an extravagant puppet play that is playing at an old time live theater (red curtains and all). Very stylized and different looking. Worth a look.
30. Dan's World 1 These are jokes you may only understand if you work in a bookstore. Basically, it's a character study of different kinds of difficult customers book store workers have put up with.
- Dan's World 2 This is the same as part one, only with new customers.
October is another month that has a special event. This time authors create specially themed Halloween episodes that go into a new collection every year. I have posted the link to that collection below plus 5 of my favorites from it. Enjoy!
Collections / Holidays / Halloween / Halloween 2005 http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/h alloween2005.html
1. THRILLER Music claymation video set to Michal Jackson's "Thriller". It cut short the song. I hate it when that happens but it's still fun to watch this Halloween themed but still weirdly random flash. A man is walking along when strange things start happening to and around him.
2. Wolfboy Short claymation about a little trick or treater that was beaten up by the local bully. Bad idea bully because you just attacked WOLFBOY and pissing him off is not a smart move.
3. After Work This one... was just so good. Nice animation with a good, long introduction and a fantastic punchline that left me gobsmacked and chuckling at the end. Anyway, this is a story of one man's unfortunate encounter one night on a dark road. Watch it!
4. Belong to everyone A very cute and clever Halloween cartoon about a bunch of insects celebrating Halloween. It's also played to some relaxing fiddle music.
5. Halloween Hoopla FOAMY!!! Bet you thought you were not going to see him this month huh? Well he's here and ranting about all things Halloween. Nuff said.
That's all for this month. As I type this I am getting ready to start sorting out the November list. There sure are a lot of quality animations that show up on Newgrounds.

Posted by TomaO2 Feb. 16, 2009 @ 1:22 AM ESTWell another month has come and gone.
Here is September's top 5.
1. Magical Trevor 3 I have featured Magical Trevor in previous issues. Once again he is back with new tricks to amaze his audience and a brand new song for us to listen too. I don't like it as much as the previous ones but it's still all good.
2. The Puberty Pals An adult, comical cartoon that deals with the sexual changes that accompany you with puberty.
3. Yet Another Day Funny music video to some asian song. Done in the Japanese style, this wonderfully animated short just shows a few snippets of one woman's day with a feel good message at the end.
4. YAAFM 11: Scientology In this episode our ranter rallies against the insanity that is Scientology. If you wanted to know why joining is a bad idea, watch this.
5. Final Fantasy Day Care 5 Wow! Great animation. This is the fifth and final part of a single movie. I'm quite sure runs a good 20 minutes from part 1 to 5 total so set some time aside. IN the final episode, tensions erupt as B.M. and Fighter fight with their accomplice. However they must all pull together when the manager/demon returns early. Will they make off with the loot? Stay tuned.
- Final Fantasy Day Care 1 What do you get when you combine a heist and Final Fantasy? Complete crazyness! In the fist part Black Mage and Fighter meet and come up with a plan to get money.
- Final Fantasy Day Care 2 Fighter and Black Mage go to the weapon shop to buy some weapons
- Final Fantasy Day Care 3 Fighter and B.M. meet their accomplice and prepare to break into the Day Care to steal. They get caught and have to pretend to be workers.
- Final Fantasy Day Care 4 The trio works at taking care of the babies while the manager is away.
The rest:
1. A Wizards Tale GAME! Actually, it's more of a movie with game elements. A wizard finds out that the princess is missing so he goes to rescue her. Nicely animated, the dragon shooter at the end can be difficult though . You will have to learn the pattern that it pops up in and anticipate it to win and see the ending.
2. C.S.P. The Mexican Dance Okay, it's poorly animated, short, and kind of dumb but I laughed so what the heck. Little guy does the Mexican Hat Dance when something unexpected happens. Suffice it to say, things end badly for him.
3. Custom Hero - basic 3 GAME! The game itself is boring. You go foreword and hit enemies until they die. Very VERY basic and it gets boring. However, It has a very neat option before you start playing where you can pick different outfits and colors and even weapons for your hero and when you play the game it will have your character in the custom design you created which I thought was pretty neat.
4. Survivor Afghanistan Watch this advertisment for the most intense Survivor yet. 16 fanatical madmen will try to outwit, outlast and outpray the others to become the the truest Taliban member of all.
5. Help the Cause A little short that asks people to donate to the victims of hurricane Katrina. I found it both enjoyable to watch and effective in it's message (not enough to donate but still).
6. The Inglor Dance A funny, short musical tribute to a well known forum member on Newgrounds. I thought it was really cute.
7. It's raining men I had a good chuckle over this slightly gory animation. Some people are just waiting for the buss when the sky starts... You guessed it, RAINING MEN.
8. just2pale tribute Funny. The artist of this animation wanted to see what his character "just2pale" would look like in the different styles of other popular NG cartoonists. You should recognize most of these if you have been watching most of my previous episodes. It's kind of a tribute/parody of other works. Good stuff.
9. LL- Edd-Black This animation had me grinning and laughing throughout. It's an audio recording of a stand up comic doing a GREAT bit on why he thinks there are too many Starbuck Coffee Houses in front of a live audience. The animation that goes with is mostly static but it has JUST enough movements to enhance the audio. Need a good laugh? WATCH THIS! :D
10. Megaman's Anniversary Great animation! Mega Man celebrates his 10th Anniversary by giving a speech to all the robot masters he has defeated over the years. He's a bit boastful and arrogant during it. Heh! The words are in Japanese but there are subtitles. So if you are a fan of the game, try it out.
11. Melty McFatburgers A new restaurant has opened up and Down at the farm Chunky Chicken's discovers that he is FOOD. Worried about being killed to be eaten as a chicken burger he looks for consolation from his friends but they don't seem to care. It's a nicely done and humerous animation.
12. No Man's Land Flash Anime Wow, just wow. Beautiful animation in an Old West setting. The short is also dripping with dark atmophere that creeps into you. Even without dialogue. On to the story, the world of "No Man's Land" comes to life in this pilot episode. It acts as a side-story to the "No Man's Land" manga as John Parker, the No Man, tracks a wanted criminal with unexpected results.
- Website for the N.M.L. Series The artists that made the animation also created the graphic novel that it is based on. At their site I have found a brief rundown on the series and even a viewer to read the first few chapters of this compelling series. IF the cartoon interests you enough check it out.
13. Public Access: PMR1 A cute movie review animation played in the style of the Siskel and Ebert (or whoever that new rewiewer's name is) TV show. The twist for this is that they review a PORN movie. It's pretty amusing having them argue about the merits of the various scenes and actors.
14. Punto GGG-Real Photo A card. A call girl. What you see is what you get! Nice twist at the end.
15. Sin City Tribute as the title says it's a tribute to Sin City. The song used is "zombie" by the Cranberries. There is not a great deal of animation in this but the style of it (likely traced from the original comics and then given some slight animation) is just so visually striking that I can't tear my eyes off it when I watch. Just out and out beautiful looking.
16. Shave Tonight Very nice. It's a parody of the song "Save Tonight" by Eagle-Eye Cherry. The author rewrote the lyrics and recorded/performed the song himself. On top of that, the animation itself is actually just an animated storyboard that he created for another animator to use as a guide while creating the "real" version. Plans fell through but he touched it up a bit and added the mouths so it can be seen as-is.
17. Kanye West: Hurricane After Hurricane Katrina hit the USA, a musician and producer , Mr. Kayne West, decided that this would be the perfect time to push his own agenda and tell the American people that "President Bush does not like black people." The following cartoon is a parody of that event.
18. Stick Killing Arena 3 pt1 see below.
- Stick Killing Arena 3 pt2 This is one complete movie divided into 2 parts. Another stick-man killing cartoon. The gimmick is that it takes place in a single area that has a great many features on it (spikes, a machine gun, platforms, towerhouse...). Another quality submission for people that like plenty of fighting.
19. Stop Crying - Part 3 Next episode in this seriously moving series, which I have posted about before. Jay catches the man that tried to abduct the author. She and Jay sell sandwiches and father comes home. Still, all is going fairly well until...
20. Texas Chain Saw President Recently, while visiting Washington DC, the author took a tour of the White House. He left the safety of his tour group to use the little boys room and promptly got lost. What I stumbled upon both shocked and horrified me. Bush and Cheney in a brutal and bloody battle. The Texas Chain Saw President is as close to what I actually saw as I can recall. Very silly and I love the bright pastel cartoony look this has.
21. The Fuhrer's Face Great little musical cartoon lampooning Nazism. The song, "Der Fuehrer's Face" is by Spike Jones and is from a walt disney nazi mockery titled "Donald Duck in Nutzi Land" and was created as a a propaganda piece against Germany during WWII.
22. The Little Buzzers Ep 1 An adorible G-rated series about a trio of cute beings that maked beeping noises. Ii this episode the first two buzzers meet Greevil.
- Series/ The Little Buzzers Great series. Check out all the episodes here.
23. The Sleep Sheep Wonderfully soothing and feel good bedtime story about the sheep you count when you go to sleep and the one member that didn't quite fit in.
24. Unmentionable Auction It's... FOAMY! Foamy sells Germaine's clothes to raise money for his cult
- Tech SUpport II Foamy talks 24/7 Tech Support.... In India. Poor guy, pity the rough treatment people suffer in a land where unions are almost nonexistent.
25. Detective Hearst Case 01 Another interesting submission from the folks from Lifepoint1. It's a game where a death has occurred. All the clues are there and there's only one murderer. If you enjoy a good mystery give it a try.
26. Every Sperm is Sacred This clip was inspired by the wonderful song "every sperm is sacred", performed by the monty pythons in the movie "the meaning of life". The animation is entirely appropriate and fits will with the lyrics. Perhaps a little TOO appropriate. There sure are a lot of penises and sperm in this. Heh.
27. A Confession The artist that created this flash is a teen that has decided to confess her crush for a boy she likes in the most public manner possible. Very sweet and from the heart. 2009self: blammed due to the relationship not working out. I have fond memories of this flash though so I shall keep this as a reminder of it. She was very brave to do such a bold thing
28. AOL Advert Short but gave me a some good giggles. It takes an advertisement for AOL and does a parody.
29. The Agent Ep.1 First of a possible series. It's an interestingly stylized short in a world where capitalism runs amuck without care of how it treats the workers. "Evil" forces are at work to create unions that would cost the businesses money (by allowing workers days off, wage increases and job safety). However, THE AGENT is on the case.
30. Drawing Contest #1 A totally unique series. Two contestants draw different pictures according to what the game host says. I think it is really cool. In this episode it's the Pro vs the Noob (or amateur). I love watching different pictures just come to life on each taking about 10 seconds or so.
- Drawing Contest #2 This time it's the Noob vs the Cutie.
- Drawing Contest #3 : FFA The Pro vs the Cutie vs the Noob.
- Drawing Contest #4 : Rage The Pro vs the Strange.
And now to find some older submissions that I have enjoyed in the past. Hmmm... This time I think I will do another collection. This time on the various Matrix movie parodies out there. Enjoy!
1. Super Mario Reloaded This is an exact replica of the first Neo/Agent Smith fight in "The Matrix: Reloaded" only using Super Mario sprites. I loved this scene in the movie and I love watching it here.
2. Blue or red pill?? This is a parody short of the famous "Blue or Red Pill" scene in the first matrix. I think how this cartoon went down is much more plausible then what happened in the movie. Poor Neo...
3. CC - The Portal First part of a full lenght short parody of the entire Matrix movie, as performed by the Clock Crew.
4. The Matrix Has You. A series of different short collaberations that parody different scenes form the Matrix movies.
- The Matrix Still Has You The follow up to the first. It features more of the same.
- The Matrix Downloaded Not a sequel in the technical sense but the same idea as the first two.
5. Secret Agent (Matrix) Music video with a Matrix feel set to the song "Secret Agent Man" by Johnny Rivers. Anyway, a stupid secret agent will "save" a girl, and will fight with the bad guys. But something is wrong...
And that's it for September 2005. Hope you found some flashes that you enjoyed.
Till next time,
Toma O'Two Tatel
NG Timewarp, Issue 006: Reviews of flashes that I LOVED during Aug05
Posted by TomaO2 Dec. 22, 2008 @ 12:27 AM ESTWelcome back to the next issue on my timewarp series.
I hope you enjoy this list of movies and games I have collected was from August 2005.
We start, as always, with August's top 5 monthly winners.
Here is August's top 5:
1. Lord of the Clocks 1-1a A perfect parody of the opening monologue of the Lord of the Rings. It has a Newgrounds slant to it but if you've watched the movies I've sent from previous emails you shouldn't misunderstand anything. It's a high quality submission and Strangeclock is one if my favorite animators. I'm really pleased he got top honors this month. :)
2. Ambush! The "Kirby" Nintendo games are about a pink puffball with a large mouth. Kirby uses it to suck the baddies inside himself and then he gains their powers for a time. In this animation. Kirby finds himself ambushed by a bunch of vilians freom the games he has starred in. All alone, Kirby must beat them all. The entire work is frame by frame animation, and lasts a little more than a minute. There's references to Kirby games all over, in the music, title, character choice, and a really obvious one at the replay screen. Good quality animation.
3. Mutant Ninja Turtles EP03 Raph battles Slash, an old experiment created by the Hand, while Don tries to break him out of his confinement. The Hand also takes this moment to lauch an attack on Leo and Mike. The artist here has a GREAT feel for the well defined characters that are in this animation. The voices and mannerisms are perfect. It's just like a darker version of the cartoon show. A MUST SEE SERIES FOR TMNT fans.
- Mutant Ninja Turtles EP01 Leo, has disturbing dreams. He wakes to find that Raph and Mic had gone out to get some parts at the junkyard. THey get ambushed. THe foot get defeated of course but not without getting some special DNA samples.
- Mutant Ninja Turtles EP02 Don takes the new bike to Ralph, who has gone looking for his he looks for his Sai. Raph is ambushed again. This time it goes badly and Don doesn't get there in time. So Ralph has to get ready to fight a few monsters made special by Shredder.
4. DCK: Oh, Baby! the latest in a series of well animated, adult, stand alone, cartoons. Vallos and Klunk are playing video games when Cycon comes in and tells a joke that leads to some funny trouble!
- Ode to Cigarette In the first episode of the series, Cigarette, a www.go-gaia.com user, claims to be dying of terminal brain cancer. She confesses to Cycon that it is merely a scam to get attention and tells him that he is stupid.
- The Wrong Vagina Klunk has his Cyber romance and they decide to meet, but despite Damien's attempts to prevent disaster, Klunk goes to meet the person anyway. So remember, that "hottie" you're "cyberfuckin" could be an old man.... or maybe not...
- Day in the Life of Cycon this really isn't an episode, more of a tribute to this art style, so enjoy this episode of DCK and all the fun things that goes on in a typical day in the life of Cycon! I enjoyed the song used.
- Monkeyspank this features the legend of a certain "Wonchop" who terrorized a flash community for the better half of fall semester. The story, featured in the actual toon, tells of another online asshole ruining people's day. This is me making fun of that situation. A tad gross but go ahead and enjoy 3 minutes of fun!
5. Cigarette This is an exceptional music video for the song 'Cigarette' by Ben Folds Five. The animation quality is gorgeous and it fits so beautifully with the sad, little song. It seriously touched me when I watched it and I can totally emphasize with the husband in it, though I have never been in the situation. I was so very pleased to see this one make it in the top five. Make sure you read the lyrics as it can be a bit hard to understand while they are being sung. Watch it!
The rest:
1. Gravity based movement GAME! An interesting concept with a very small file size. This started out as an experiment, but that author thought it looked funny how the elements, each having it's own gravitational field, create the illusion of chasing after each other. So he added a few features allowing them to eliminate others, growing stronger with each succesful 'assassination'.
2. A Very Short Western nicely animated short cartoon that is basicly a set up for a one liner joke. Good for a chuckle.
3. Autumn Tree This is, by any measure, an exceptional, serious short. On April 20, 1999, a terrible tragedy took place that cost 13 victims their lives and left many more severly injured. The two responsible, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, turned out to be 2 teenage students themselves of Columbine High. Autumn Tree is a story based on the lives of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Without it being a complete reconstruction, this flash shows the situation before and during the tragedy and does so with uncommon faithfulness to the real event. Not for the squemish but still very worthwhile. Make sure you read all the author's notes in this. You need to know the background to appreciate it fully.
4. Click game GAME! You have ten seconds to click the mouse as many times as you can before time's up. I have played a number of games where I had to click as fast as I could and I would wonder to myself if there was any way I could do better. With this I can. <grins>
5. Doomrunner GAME! This is my favorite game of the month. You have a ship and you must blow up the enemies and collect their refills to stay alive. No end as such to the game but it's basically impossible around level 30 to keep going onward as the enemies become to many to count. The best I did was around lv 20 when the big ships came out. Only part I didn't like is no save feature so you have to start all the way from the start again.
6. Strawberry Absinth Aaaawww. The purple wolf Lupie is so cute. Anyway, when you're floating down a river of absinth on a strawberry, everything must be good. It's short but sweet.
7. God's Playing Field GAME! It's good, mindless, murderous fun. Find out what God really does in his free time! (no offense meant towards God or any religion) To start killing people in the game, click the FIST. Use the MONEY you earn to buy new ATTACKS to kill people faster. Use the NUKE the first time to see the ENDING.
8. How to make a cup of tea Just as the title says. This is a cute guide on how to make a proper cup of tea. The instructor is British, naturally and it has a soothing background music.
9. Internet Porn It's not what you would expect, hilarious song about internet porn. The animation is little more then a slideshow which made me a bit reluctant to include it but it was just so darn amusing I decided to save it.
10. London Underground experi Hilarious song slamming the London Underground railway. The visuals suck (just like in the previous one, you'd be better just downloading the song alone if you can find it) but I enjoyed the lyrics so much I am adding it anyway.
11. kenya Another flash I saw for the first time in this month but was actually released in Jan04. Anyway, it's a kind of Tourism advert for Kenya. it's a very short (and cute) looping music video.
12. NormalDayInStickmenWorld Another mass battle of little stickmen. Not bad but I particularaly like the little twist at the ending which is why I added it.
13. Roadkill and Juliet A touching tale of an innocent--yet forbidden--love between a young girl and a chicken hawk. Not joking, the author plays it surprisingly straight for such a silly idea. Not that it doesn't have it's funny moments too. It's actually a music video done to the song "You Get Me" by Michelle Branch. I'm enjoying this author's stuff so far.
14. Sacred Space It's FOAMY! Is there such a thing as Sacred Space and when Germaine tells him about it... Well you just KNOW he will have to put the idea to the test .
2008self: Got blammed somehow. Perhaps iWillPress deleted it himself.
- Foamy: Hurricane Special This was made RIGHT after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. In it he rants about how the reporters are talking and talking but not helping any of the victims. Your probably going to strongly agree or disagree with this one.
15. Software: The Browsers Which is the best internet explorer Netscape, Internet Explorer or Firefox? Find out here. I found it amusing. The animation is interesting looking as well because it is computerized 3-D.
16. Strategy Guide Ep. 1 Everyone's favorite intergalactic space alien, Guido(!) loves old Nintendo games. Unfortunately, he's not very good at them. Watch as Guido reviews one of the classics! If you are an old school Nintendo fan you will love this.
- Series / Strategy Guide Just a great series. Episode 4 came out this month. If you liked the first give the rest of these self contained episodes a look.
17. The Real Mortal Kombat: 2 Come see what goes on in the daily lives of the popular video game characters from Mortal Combat. In the second installment of the popular series. Among the highlights: Sub-Zero takes advantage of a drunk collage girl... and freezes her accidentally, Goro throws a house party at Raiden's house and Scorpion challenges people to Mortal Combat.
18. Taco-man: Hot Coffee Cartoon Newsflash in a commentary style. This edition has the show's anchor, Taco-Man, giving his thoughts about senator Hillary Clinton's crusade against GTA and video games in general. This is the latest in a well done series. If you like opinion pieces. Try these out.
- Taco-Man hates the RIAA This is the earlist Taco-Man cartoon on Newgrounds. This week he reports on the RIAA (Recording Industry of America) and their plans to sue individuals who download music.
- Taco-Man for Governor While doing his report, Taco-Man quits his day job and runs for Governor of California. Will FOXX NEWS ruin his chances of winning? Probably.
*ATTENTION*- Taco-Man hates Saddam I'm marking this one for special attention. You see, this isn't actually a news commentary like most of the others. Instead it's the BEST Loony Toons parody I have seen posted on Newgrounds. The animation is a bit amaturish but he's got the old classic stand byes from the series. If your a fan of Loony Toons you MUST WATCH!
- Taco-Man Halloween No Commentary here either. The author of this series has created other ones as well. In Taco-Man Halloween Special: Taco-Man throws a Halloween Party and all of the Ebolaworld from those other shows stars are invited.
- Taco-Man: Hurricane If you haven't heard, a hurricane named Katrina destroyed New Orleans. In the latest News Flash, Taco-Man discusses the disaster, President Bush's reaction, and gets answers from a Hurricane expert. Praise Jesus. Amen.
19. Tentacle Monsters A lonly stickman is doing a bit if typing when suddenly a little tentacle monster comes out of nowhere to attack him. He dispatches it but more are coming. Will he survive? find out by watching this fun little monster fight movie.
20. Survivor: Hyrule You will love this if you enjoy Survivor and have a decent knowledge of the Zelda series. We are down to the last three contestants. Link, Gannon and Zelda. Who will will the money? Well animated and cleaver. Good stuff.
21. The Little Girl Another creepy one. It's 8-minute animated storybook about a small child who has been forgotten by absolutely everyone. She finds a way to be noticed, all right... but at whaty price? Great stylized visuals and audio.
22. Transitions Episode 1 Part 1 of a possible new Jedi parody/action series. Takes place right at the end of Star Wars: Episode 3. Fearing that Anakin Skywalker's emotional instability will shortly lead him to the dark side of the force 2 Jedi are sent to shadow him. While Ani and Obi-Wan seek to rescue Chancellor Palpatine. The animation starts at this point. Another exceptionally well animated short.
23. Become Very cool looking. What this is, is the building of a full clay person set to music. It starts with just wire and goes from there. I had wondered how you fixed a clay person up.
24. What's on TV?! Wario (of Nintendo's Super Mario Brother's fame) relaxes from a had day at work and watches a bunch of funny commercials for various things.
25. Aliens from Planet Dave GAME! A delightful and creative mix of live action, cartoon and choose your own adventure style game play. The story is that aliens from Planet Dave have landed and they're after your biscuits! In this live action adventure, guide the author (who is also the hero) through his house, click on objects, find weapons, kick some alien arse!
26. Over There: Segment 1 big series First part of a 5 part full length claymation. a HUGE amount of work must have went into this. The story is that our hero and his girlfriend have been placed on opposite sides of their owner's workroom. Now Trip must save Nita from being on top of the bookcase. Unless she saves herself.
- Series / Over There Make sure you got some time because watching will take awhile. This may very well be the best claymation on Newgrounds. Don't pass this gem by.
27. Defend Your Computer GAME! You must defend your computer against viruses, spyware, spam popups and many more! Every kill gets you $7 for you to buy new upgrades. Mouse to aim, click to shoot. Watch your heat gauge, if it reaches the end your computer must reboot and you will become immobilized for a couple seconds. I found it a lot of fun. Few tips, the laser upgrades arn't too useful, go for health after getting the add ons. IF you are really stuck type "gog" at the title screen for unlimited money.
28. The last debarkment There is a theory, that just before you die your life flashes in front of your eyes. Very different. It shows a series of black and white still images (almost photos) that represent the life of a single individual before his life ends. I got a chill while watching it.
29. Megaman vs Geminiman As I stated in issue 004, I enjoy the "Mega Man" video games by Capcom. This animation was inspired by "Mega Man vs. Quick Man" but it's a by different author and he has no connection to that flash. Other then a love of it that made him want to do the same theme. Like the Quick Man battle flash, it's a pure fight, animation. Mega Man has come to the lair of the Robot Master, Gemini Man. Now the two must battle to the death.
- Megaman vs Snakeman The author also made another one. This time Mega Man fight's Snake Man. They are both from Mega Man 3, if you are interested. This author is almost as good as the man he is imitating. Kudos to him.
30. A Tribute to the Tribute Newgrounds has been around for ten years now. A group of artists that submit to it decided to do a massive collaboration to celebrate the occasion. This flash is the prologue to it. So watch this and then watch the Newground tribute if you want.
- Newgrounds 10th Tribute The actual tribute. To be honest, it's pretty boring. One hundred flash animations of varying quality count to 10, ten times and you see a birthday cake that eventually get's 10 candles. There is no real payoff for slogging though the cartoon. I'd give it a pass. I did like the prologue however.
Normally I put in older animations here but this month was Clock Day. Happy Clock Day 2005! August 15th, 2005 marks FOUR YEARS since Strawberry Clock submitted "B" to the Newgrounds Portal and beban the revolution known as the Clock Crew.
Newgrounds received a record number of flash movies. Around 2000 thousand I believe. Unfortunately, many of them were crap submitted by wannabes trying to ride the popularity of Clock Day. The better ones were gathered up to make a collection though. I will post 5 of my favorites from it.
2008self: I make this a habit for all the months with a major occasion (Christmas, Pico Day...) later on.
*** Collections /Clock Crew/ Clock Day 2005 ***
1. SBC plots for Frontpage! SBC makes a movie to get on the frontpage, will he succeed?
2. D is for DurianClock Music video set to John Lennon's hit, "Imagine". Fanciful artwork gives this submission a unique look!
3. '05 'o Clock Another music video. Bit of a story to go with it though. Strawberry clock is walking back to get to his hometown, Clocktopia for Clockday20005. Animation is set to the ENTIRE theme song, "Where Everbody Knows Your Name", for that wonderful 90's comedy. "Cheers". I've never heard the entire song before. If you don't know the show. It's a nice, soothing, feel good song.
4. Strawberry's Gym Nice, lenghty animation. Strawberry clock is in trouble. His flourishing casino business has been closed down and his name is dirt. But then, with the help of his friends, strange and turd, he gets a great Idea. To build; "strawberry's fitness and leisure center!".
5. GoodBye ClockDay As Clockday comes to an end, Sir Clock re-enters the portal to deliver a final speech for Clockday 2005.
And that's it for August 2005. Hope you found some flashes that you enjoyed.
Till next time,

NG Timewarp, Issue 005: Reviews of flashes that I LOVED during July05
Posted by TomaO2 Dec. 19, 2008 @ 3:50 AM ESTWelcome back to the next issue on my timewarp series. I'm trying a different header to see if that attracts some extra interest when I post. Let's see how it works out.
I hope you enjoy this list of movies and games I have collected was from July 2005.
First though, here is July's top 5 monthly winners.
1. Decline of Video Gaming 3 The Evil Developers have a new plan to kill off Dim, Dan and JT. Will it succeed? Stay tuned. This is the third of a series of self contained episodes DEVOTED to lampooning popular console games. If you love gaming then there is no way you want to miss this. It's all about in jokes though. Capcom, Zelda, PSP and Metal Gear Solid. If you don't recognize any of there common video game terms then you may not get the funny parts of this animation.
- Decline of Video Gaming At the dawn of the 21 century, gaming was at it's peak but since then things started to go downhill. In the year 2059, three English guys look at some ot the games that have been releases between 2000 and the present day and make fun of them. Future hits like "Metal Gear Solid 5", and "Zelda and the Lampshade Of No real Significance".
- Decline of Video Gaming 2 Dim, Dan and JT, game analyzers extraordinare, have won tickets to this year's E3 (gaming convention). Unfortunately, not all is as it seems, for the heads of 3 video game companies have lured them here in order to kill the trio off for having made fun of their games so often.
2. Salad Fingers Episode 6 <sighs> I hate Firth's submissions. Salad Fingers is a monster in a world of monsters that enjoys the feel of rust. He's quite insane as well, though in this world that is nothing unusual.. Today self contained episode, Salad Fingers does random and creepy things in the surreal environment he calls home. Watch the full series at:
- Series / Salad Fingers This has got to be one of the strangest Flash series ever conceived in NG. If you like slow plots where the atmosphere is absolute king. If you don't mind that nothing makes sense. If you enjoy a horror movie feel without it getting overly gory and violent that this is for you. Not me though.
3. Tomorrow's Nobodies Ep.3 The latest in a connected series that I don't like. It's a 16 minutes long, comedy animation. In here, one guy is in jail after loving too much (he loves by stabbing), so the gang is getting money to bail him out by opening a day care center.
- Series / Tomorrow's Nobodies a group of 20 something friends do random things.
4. B/W Cartoon About Berries Firth again, AGAIN! This makes his fifth monthly award. That's more then any other artist. Grr, I don't like his stuff. Interesting style though, paper-flash (A cartoon almost completely drawn on paper and animated in flash). John is a married man who's paranoias and delusions are driving him slowly more insane. Hard to know what's real. Prequel to:
- Roof Tiling In it John keeps fixing a roof that is in good condition, losing his temper a lot, and periodically behaving in strange ways until it just gets to become too much for him to handle.
5. Code Veronica: Flash Edn Have you played Resident Evil: Code Veronica ? This flash is a parody of the first quarter of the game. the idea behind this wasn't to create all new situations to put the characters in, but to take the source material and work around it. That means there will be a lot of humor that's geared toward RE fans. You'll have to know about the game to understand some of the movie's quirks. typical of it's author Legendary Frog, it's well animated and voiced (thought the voices for the villains et annoying). A good overall animation.
THE OTHERS
1. Space Invaders V. F. This movie is a documentary about the Space Invasion in 1975. Do you remember that game, 'Space Invaders'? That one and 'Pitfall' were the first games I played on the old Atari2600. Anyway, although the earthlings could fight back successfully, we often forget the victims on the other side. Pretty cute.
2. Chalice (KB Game) GAME! The author's intent in making this was to make fun a game that uses as few Kb as possible. Under 10Kb, in this instance. He did a good job. Sort of like minesweeper. You are given a rectangle with 15 squares inside it by 22 squares. Click on the squares to find the one with the chalice as soon as possible in as few tries as you can. To help you along, the squares that do not have the chalice will have arrows that help point the way. However, as the levels increase, more and more squares will reveal blank squares when you click them. Making it harder to find the chalice. VERY good for the file size.
3. Shades of Grey Ep. 1 An amnesiac man wakes up to find a mysterious stranger waiting. Before any answers can come about, he is thrust into battle against the "Drakin.", horde of evil demon like beings.
- Series / Shades of Grey A very interesting, fighting, fantasy series. In it, an amnesiac man with great power finds himself battling to bring color to a Black &White world! The fight sequences could have a faster pace to them but are still good and this one has a very deep and ongoing story behind it with plenty of twists and turns.
4. Tidyman and the T.O.D. T.O.D means Trashcan of Death. Tidyman is harassed by a radioactive trashcan after he is thwarted from his daily non-littering activities! I found this an amusing stick fight animation. Thumbs up!
5. PSM: Blam Police When a flash is submitted to Newgrounds it is either passed or erased if the score goes below 1.6 out of 5. Erasing a movie is known as a blam. There have been numerous animations devoted to this concept. Here is one of the better ones. Slaker (the noob, which means newcomer that seems to revel in his incompetence) has made a movie and submits it straight to newgrounds. Will his 'Greatest Creation' make it past judgment, will it suffer a long painful death in the obituaries and just who enforces the blam once it goes into effect? Why, the blam police of course! ^_^
6. The Gonk At 1AM It took awhile setting up for the joke but when it comes it had me laughing out loud. You must be familiar with the Harry Potter series to get the humor. Warning! It has book six spoilers in it.
- Short video The animation above was based on the audio from this little video this guy took of himself. If you thought the animation was funny then you should watch this too.
7. the NG Calculator GAME! When you visit Newgrounds a lot, you will probably want to get a user account for yourself. It allows you to review movies you like, and even submit new animations to be watched. One day, you might get sick of having it and maby you would like to get rid of it. Now, you COULD delete it but the great thing about Ebay.com (an online auction for anything) is that you can sell anything you want. This calculator, after you put in your stats (number of posts/reviews submitted, the amount of experience you have and such) will give you an estimate on how much you might get. When I write my stats up apparently I would get, if I sold my account today (September 1, 2005) $49.68.
8. The Sith Rejects This is really cute Star Wars concept. The animator has the interesting idea that Darth = "in" (Darth Vader= IN-Vader). Just try and think off all the funny Sith names you can make using this idea. Heh!
9. Star wars CHEATER Amateurish but still amusing. Just how many blades can come out of a lightsaber handle anyway?
10. :FIERRAS:. Cartontown Another interesting concept movie. In a world of squares one inhabitant finally thought up the ultimate speed aid. CIRCLES! What's really interesting is the look of the cartoon though. The characters, world and such were first drawn on paper and everything you see is 2d animation. The things that look like they are 3d were drawn to look like that.
11. random stuff 1 No story on this one. Many random scenes string together showing mostly bad things happen to stick men <grins>. "Why should I hire you?" "Because if you don't, I'll shoot you". Loved that!
12. Birthday Zone: Flight X19 One of the most iconic old time series of the 50's and 60's was "The Twilight Zone". If you remember the original series, you will enjoy this animation and its birthday theme. Even if you don't, it's a nice looking little animation with a twist at the end, so look at it anyway.
13. blatant ng clichés: 001 This is another monologue. This time Strawberry Clock, perhaps the most famous of all characters made specifically for NG, talks about his fame.
2008self talking: It has since been blammed after I originally posted the article.
14. Broken Dreams(incomplete) The band, Green Day's song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is used in this well thought out music video. In it a brown little squishy man visits earth after we had a nuclear holocaust and looks to see how we ended and if there was any civilization left. It's a suitable companion to the lyrics of the music and although the entire song isn't used, it manages a complete story arc and ends during one of the fade outs. So it's not a big loss.
15. Build Me Up Buttercup A collaboration music video of the Foundations Song"Build Me Up Buttercup". As is the norm the animation is extremely random with no unifying theme to it but I do like the song and it's not bad so I added it to my list.
16. Handmade Clothes It's FOAMY!! So what's Better then buying clothes? Making Your Own! Germanie, tired of ill fitting clothing at the store, does just that in this episode.
17. Hiro Shitaku While this was not created in July05, it was the month I first saw it and I didn't want to lose track so I stuck it here. Anyway, I've always liked the Japanese manga style cartoon style. It's very distinct. This edu-mation flash will explore the history and techniques of the Japanese animation industry. They use it by creating a fictional character, Hiro Shitaku as an amalgamation of a number of Japanese animators and how they created that distinct look. The facts, in a general way, are accurate but it's told in a way that values fun over 100% complete accuracy. I really liked this one.
18. House of M: part 1 New episodes of this parody flash series of the X-Men. I have read enough of them to be familiar with the jokes put in here. If your also a fan you'll love it. Today, the X-Men and the Avengers are summoned by Professor X for a special reason.
- X-Men: Revisiting Profit A traitor is among the X-Men. Can the spy be found?
19. It's All Richard's Fault! This was inspired literally by burning herself...with food. Girl gets hungry so she makes something to eat and then burns herself. Why? It must be her one true love, Richard's, fault. I mean what's he doing making her thing of him all the time anyway? While a bit dull in the middle when they do a song with a few still pictures but otherwise, it's not bad at all.
20. Middle Age Tamagotchi GAME! Remember Tamagotchi? It's a little game where you carry around a little virtual pet with you everywhere. You have to feed and take care of it using commands that you enter in the game. If you neglect your pet for too long it dies and you have to start over. The thing about it is it never stops so you always have too watch out for it. This game works the same. As you cannot be at the computer 24/7 though time slows down significantly when you are offline.
21. Mug Hug The cute and somewhat sad story of a coffee mug searching for purpose in his life. He knows how to coffee but there are some things in life that even coffee cannot solve. Is there ANYONE that Coffee Mug can keep content with his limited comfort skills?
2008self talking: Was a recent winner on the NG hidden contest. Congrats Mug! ^_^
22. complete ng tutorial GAME? f your still unfamiliar with how Newgrounds works this will fill you in on the basics of the site. A very good read.
- NG Tutorial This is another 'how to' guide of Newgrounds, it's smaller and less professional looking but it had a few tidbits that the first flash animation didn't have.
2008self talking: There are probably better ones but these were the first I found. In addition the info is out of date. IF you are interested in seeing how ranks worked way back then, feel free to take a look
23. Crows' Life This is REALLY good. This flash is a tale of Crows trying to get corn, and their epic battle against the scarecrow. The voice acting is in Spanish, but it has English subtitles. Plenty of madcap humor and action in it
24. "Rolling" An interesting 3D animation. Looks pretty realistic, although some of the physics arn't quite right. It was all hand animated, when there are no dynamics used or anything, physics are hard to do. Pity. The animation is a metal ball rolling around on a sort of obstacle source. Pretty nifty looking.
25. XIN Session 15 Oh good, the latest episode is out. Oton reveals himself to be evil after all and has been taught all of Xin's strengths... and weakness. More school history is revealed. Fighters will be defeated, will Xin be among them? Love this series.
26. jackson chocolate factory The classic movie "Charley and the Chocolate Factory" is being remade but The actor portraying Willy Wonka in it has had unfortunate comparisons to pop star, Michal Jackson. So what would happen if Michal ran the factory? Here is a hilarious little promo clip on what that would be like.
27. Peter Godly: Chapter One Peter is your basic God fearing man except that he takes the bible a tad (!) too literally. Also, if ANYONE questions or goes against that holy book, Mr. Godly will smite that person with his smiting stick. Now, an offering to God that is burnt by fire, carries an aroma that is pleasing to the Lord but it also stinks up the neibourhood. In this, first episode of a possible series, one of his newborns comes over to talk to Peter about it. Too bad he didn't understand how some things are best left unsaid <evil grin>.
28. Noodles on my Back This is a short, lighthearted music video about a hippo, some noodles, and a piglet. Everything, including the music and voices, was done by the flash author. Nicely animated and the song is catchy, if rather silly, which is part of it's charm. Enjoy.
29. One o'Clock Jump Out of all the collaboration, music video, flashes I have seen, this one is my favorite. The reason for that is because all the entries are meshed into one animation. Normally, in this sort of work, the animators make their own thing for each part and then just string it together. The result is always disjointed but here every artist and style flow seamlessly from one to the next. Just fantastic, I wish more collaborations took the time to do this. The music is an instrumental jazz style that I quite enjoyed as well.
30. The flash n00b Another poor should makes a crummy movie and submits it to NG only to have it blammed on him. Pity the poor Noob. :P
This month the latest HP book "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" was released. Of course, there is a collection of HP stuff on Newgrounds so I decided to comb through it and pick dedicate this month's old favorites submissions to the topic. I wasn't overly impressed with the selection in this but I managed to find enough that I liked to fill out the 5 slots (barely). There is a better selection these days though.
*** Collections / Harry Potter ***
1. Potter Puppet Pals! This is just a cute, demented little cartoon the author made. The premise, basically, is this: What if Harry Potter was a puppet show, performed by the insane? Today, Harry and Ron bother Snape. Heheheh.
- Potter Puppet Pals 2! In this installment, Harry and friends try to stop the Dark Lord Voldemort from taking over the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
- Harry Potter & The A.B.O A.B.O. means Azkabam Break Out. Not a sequel to the Potter puppet pals exactly. This is a tribute made by a fan. It's almost identical in look and feel to the Potter Pals though. So if you liked that, try this. Moving on, the show takes select parts of the third HP book. Prisoner of Azkabam, sort of anyway.
2. Snape gets into L's past Raito steals L's (another student at the school) memories and he and Snape enter the pensive (a pensive is a way to see a person's memories if you can get them. Much like a CD player) to see the genius' childhood. This seems to be based on a fan fiction with totally new students that are unrelated to Harry and his group. It's a goofy spoof on Hogwarts and looks good too. Has very little to do with the book though so might be a bit confusing for HP aficionados. Not much background to the story either. Still, I liked it.
3. GAEL-- Harry Potter How a simple mistake can lead Harry into the perverse depths of Adult Entertainment. Or how the series might have been different if the word 'wand' was replaced with the word 'wang'. Oh, how I LAUGHED at this one.
4. Harry meets Dumbledore A parody of the mirror of erased scene when Dumbledore shows up. Nicely done.
5. Harry Potter Chatroom Completely adult, not for the kids, heh. Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley have joined a "private" MSN chatroom to cyber in when things get chaotic...
- Harry Potter Chatroom 2 More chatroom antics. I liked this because I spend so much time online, it's neat to have a flash totally chatroom based as this one is.
And that's it for July 2005. Hope you found some flashes that you enjoyed.
Till next time,
Toma O'Two Tatel
Due to some changes, there are now 10 monthly winners, consisting of 2 sets of 5 . The first 5 go to games and the other 5 to movies. A whopping 57% of all the people viewing flashes focus on the games (and games only occupy about 20%(!) of the total) so it was felt that games needed more prominence then they were currently getting. I prefer the movies so I'll continue to list them and any games I like, I'll just add to the other 30 that I talk about. That said,
The top 5 movies for June are:
1. Xombie: Chapter 6 This is a FANTASTIC animation. Chapter 6 of an ongoing movie (an actual movie They are reworking and adding to it but this basic story will be coming to DVD). In it, we find Dirge(a hybrid zombie with a mind of his own ), Zoe and Cerberus face to face with a mysterious and powerful enemy known only as the Hands of God. Will they Survive?
-Series/ Xombie Newground, of course, has a dedicated page for this fantastic series. It's inexplicably missing the first chapter. In chapter 1, a little girl washes up from the water onto a beach. She hears music and follows it to a graveyard. Zombies attack but she is saved by an even stronger zombie. The excitement is too much and she passes out. Now, you are ready to begin Chapter 2 onward. To summarize parts 2 through 5: The little girl wakes up in the abode of the zombie that saved her. She out that his name is Dirge and he is actually intelligent and doesn't even want to eat her brains. He agrees to help her get back to the nearest human settlement where she will hopefully find her family. On the journey, things get weird. Fantastic stuff and the art is among the best in Newground.
2008self: the series is finished now. Watch it!
2. Where do clams come from Kind of weird. A dryad (some kind of spirit of nature) is taking care of her tree in an oasis that somehow survives in the middle of a swamp when a man comes. She hides and seems to enjoy his presence, while he rests, at first but his insensitivity to nature end up getting him in trouble...
3. Lilium There isn't really any "animation" in this piece... Its more of a slideshow of sorts, telling of a very important event in the young girl, Lilium's, life. There is a lot of text and you will have to read fast. She is propositioned by an evil being to do an heinous act but when it is completed he is unable to give her the reward she most desires. It's rather gory and creepy. It has also taken on a cult status very quickly, becoming one of the most parodied pieces in recent Newground history. Not my taste but worth a look.
4. Burnt Face Man 4 One again David Firth puts together a odd little animation. He has won, by the time of my writing this, 3 cash awards for being in the top monthly five flashes, more then any other artist so far. This is, hands down, my favorite of his many works. The wussy superhero (it's okay though, everyone's a wuss in this) Burnt Face Man finds himself being upstaged by the newest hero on the block, Slightly Bruised Man. Fourth in a series of self contained episodes. Check out the series at:
- Series/ Burnt Face Man
5. College University pt 10 I don't find this one funny at all (it's suppost to be). It's a fairly lengthy animation about the boys as they seek out to build a robot after seeing a stuntman that has 85% of his body replaced with mechanics and Big Jim gets in over his head playing video games...Tenth of a series. Check it out at
- Series / College University
Now for 30 other submissions I saw the month and enjoyed.
1. Robocop-PD (*) I am a big fan of Robocop so I enjoyed this a lot. It's a tribute animation to the Prime Directive movies. No storyline or anything, just Robocop looking cool and blasting at hs foes.
2. 21 OClockStreetTheMovie 1 Strangeclock is becoming one of my preferred animators on NG. In this he has made a 20ish minute show (split into 2 parts of ten minutes each) that is a parody of the old series '21 Jump Street' Even if you don't recall the inspiration (I certainly don't) you should love how this goes. In part one StrawberryClock finds himself sentenced to jail because the establishment can't handle his unorthodox methods of crime fighting, a deadly quartet of criminals sees the perfect opportunity to set a villainous scheme in motion...
- 21 OClockStreetTheMovie 2 The conclusion.
3. Another New Bunny Warner Brothers have come out with a new take on the classic warner characters of old and made them hipper and more 'extreme' for the viewing audience. The animators of this don't much care for that and use this flash to satirize the whole idea. It's kind of a companion piece to "A New Bunny" which I showcased in issue 001. I like this one better as it explains what the authors are so disdainful of more clearly and there it more emphasis on dialogue.
4. Bank Rob The fun and fairly lengthy toon follows the misadventures of Rob Raccoon, a normal guy, err I mean raccoon, whose trip the bank leads him into a heap of trouble.
5. Circuit Skirmish When the city is attacked by a ruthless gang of robots there is only ONE robot that can save us all... The robots battle it out, good fight animation.
6. Computer Problems A while ago the author and his friend got into that classic Macs vs PCs argument, and eventually decided that they both suck equally badly. The result was the idea for this Flash movie. Not the best looking and the voices are a bit hard to hear but I enjoyed how they ripped the flaws if each system In the first part, we make fun of PCs
- Computer Problems 2 Now we make fun of the Mac and it's ABOUT TIME!!! This is the first animation that I've ever seen that makes fun of Macintoshes so I really enjoyed watching it.
7. Surface I love how the people at Lifepoint1 put together an animation. Kind of metaphysical. A young man suddenly finds himself in a replica of his old childhood room. In it there are three doors each with a different word in it. "Artless", "imperious" and then "superficial". If he picks the wrong door... He must use his memories of certain times to figure out the puzzle. I found it pretty engrossing.
8. Save Me from the Dark I waffled a bit on this one but the use of Evanescene's song "Bring me to Life" won me over in the end. Music video where 2 stick lovers find their world being invaded by aliens. Can they survive and stay together when the world is keeping them apart? The pace of the flash blends PERFECTLY with the song and also fits the lyrics once the mind control aspect comes into force. This symbolizes the nothingness that the blue stick becomes and needs to be freed from with his love of the pink stick.
9. Jet Plane A lovely, abstract looking, simply done, music video made to the tune of Frank Sinatra singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Wish it could have been the entire song but what he did use was very effective and pleasant.
10. Ken's Date (Apple Switch) I love this, it's a short monologue about a guy that wants to get a date with a girl who won't agree. Want to know why? Watch the short, I guarantee it will make you smile.
11. Kitty in lonely box BLAMMED! It was a VERY well animated little short. A little girl finds an abandoned kitty. Poor little thing, why is it all alone? Prepare for a surprise, good for a chuckle.
12. Open-Mic Night II -Mic Night It's... FOAMY. This time Foamy (everyone's favorite loud mouth, ranting squirrel) and the gang are doing poetry at an open mic night.
13. RaidenX GAME! FANTASTIC game. You control a ship, top down, the screen slowly pans upward and you must fight the baddies. I remember playing Raiden at the arcade late 80's or early 90's I think. I loved getting the power ups that I'd get until your ship seemed ridiculously overpowered. <grins>
14. NSFW's "Cartoon Strip" And for the ladies, it's an animated strip tease with the emphasis on 'tease'. The black and white animation is simple and cute looking (love the facial expressions the toon man gives) with a great little instrumental song to go with it.
15. Relax Why are you so stressed? Listen to the music, look at the tree, take a cue from the little furry that lies in it's branches and just... REEEEEE-LLLLLAAAAXX, ahhh.
16. Rocks and Trees Very cute. It's a short music video featuring the song "Trees and Rocks" by the Arrogant Worms (a Canadian comedy singing group). The song is about Canada by they way and the 2 things we have a lot of. Can you guess what they are? The song is funny and the Squishy Men are really adorable looking.
17. Nutsy & Klutsy: Ep. 2 Nutsy tears off a "do not remove under penalty of law" tag. Something about the animation threw me off, I think it's because it reminds me of "Ren and Stimpy" cartoons a tad too much (I don't care for their humor) but, despite myself, I found it to be intrigued by a rather clever cartoon with decent jokes. It has a run time of 8min45s.
- Nutsy & Klutsy: Ep. 1 Nutsy is horrified to discover he's grown a hemorrhoid, a BIG hemorrhoid, and must now cope with it. I didn't like this one nearly as much. Mainly because of the plot (a big huge hemorrhoid that get's a mind if it's own) this isn't as funny to me as being sent to jail for pulling of the "do not remove" tag from a couch.
18. Sleep: A Tribute This is his tribute to the composer Eric Whitacre. I guess he was a chorus writer. Beautiful, haunting music scores and is the highlight of this piece. The animation is kind of sad. The quality isn't the best though, being kind of amateurish and static. It's about a rester cannot get to sleep because of the demons he lives with. Unable to take it any longer he commits suicide.
19. Star Wars:Expendable Sith The Emperor sends his many minions off to die and prepares for their deaths by immediately getting a new apprentice in place after the old one is sent. It's fast pace and witty dialogue make it seem even shorter then it is. You don't need to be a fan of Star Wars to get a laugh from this either.
20. Runaway Match Every little kid knows that the best part of any birthday party is blowing out the candles and making a wish. But what happens if the match doesn't want to be used to light the god damn candles? You watch and find out. A smooth music animation set to the familiar jazz instrumental piece "Take Five".
21. Tell Me! Short funny about a guy that has something to say but then decides that it's not worth talking about. His friend, however, REALLY wants to know now. The audio was taken from the first part of the following clamation flash:
- (2004) That one song A clayman has a song stuck in his head. Can his friends help him figure out what the name of it is?
22. Letters Game Final GAME! My typing is really not the best. I have to stop looking at the keyboard when I do it. I think this is a good practice game for that. When you see a letter come down hit the keyboard to make it disappear before it hits your city. There are a lot of these actually probably a lot better ones. This was the first that caught my interest though.
23. Un-Sea-n Life pilot A very nice, serious, short. A 13 year old boy named Billy is dumped by his parents to an island for the summer to an aunt that hates him. In this first animation of a possible series, he get's to the island and goes fishing the next day with the other boys that live on the island as well.
24. Banana Phone Ever heard the "Banana Phone" song? Well this evil music travels the world, implanting itself into people heads and driving them insane, just like it does in this flash. See how three best friends cope when the music implants itself in their midst. MWAHHAHAHAHAA!
25. Field Command GAME! Chose your own adventure in it. You control a platoon of troops during the Vietnam war. Make the choices that will make sure you succeed in your missions. I REALLY liked the tactical aspect of this. The tactics used by your men felt right. The animation is simplistic and the music is short and repetitive but I think there is much fun to be had for anyone interested in military maneuvers.
26. -FILLED- Another interesting exercise in isometrics. Watch the square shapes objects take on odd colors and shapes.
27. The Chadwicks: Episode 1 Cartoon in the model of those old 50's sitcoms. right down to the laugh track, canned responses and unenlightened attitudes towards women. Not the most humorous but I like it as a period piece example and it does THAT very well indeed.
28. Gordon vs. Evil When Good can no longer challenge Evil, Gordon is always willing to take its place. This time she and Evil (a little devil like character) are in a foot race and it's no holds bars as they fight each other the whole way in this music animation played to the jazz instrumental song "Piano Black" by Yoko Kanno.
29. Hitler and Dave Hitler is trying to keep a low profile but Dave the Talking Pig recognizes him and won't shut up about it. Heavy dialogue that I think they pulled off well in the totally irrelevant conversation the 2 characters share.
30. Inflatable Dad Short animation for father's day. It's an ad for the new and improved Inflatable Dad. See the many, not so wonderful, things it can do. A nice way to remind us that nothing beats a caring parent. <smiles>
Incredibly, it's December and I do not have a single Christmas flash for the whole list. That will change in later issued as I dedicate my last section to special collections like Christmas and Halloween. Until that time though... Here are some older movies that I have enjoyed in the past.
1. Cutethulhu This is not broad comedy -- it is intended for a literary audience, specifically fans of the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. That said if you ARE a fan if his work and don't take yourself too seriously you will find this an ABSOLUTE RIOT. To understand this animation (assuming you are not a fan) A chithulu (the being that the Cutethulu doll represents in the flash) is an ancient and EVIL creature that feasts on human's. Lovecraft's (he died some time ago, by the way) intention when creating the character (he was a writer of novels) was to make a terrible and evil thing that would scare the pants off of everyone. Keep that in mind while watching and you will laugh too. Hyper cute and very well animated.
2. Newgrounds Versus - Final This flash has two animations that were made for a competition. The one on the right by Jerm is a bit of a horror flick. A girl comes onto her home but someone else is in there too. I don't really understand it, there's no story to it really. The submission on the left is by Gel and I REALLY like it a lot. Two stickmen are fighting. Ryle lost the winner goes off to evolve into a full bodied animation as he believes that is the future. Ryle realizes that he will never win in his current form so he becomes a more animated stick to stop him because, deep down he must be true to himself and he is still a stick. I find this confusing too, despite the involved story but the story was really interesting none the less.
3. I Eat People "Hey, Mr. Monster, why do you eat people?"
The idea for this song came to the author one morning while taking a shower. An hour later, he had the lyrics and the character. A little boy and Mr. Monster. The purple people eater sings about his favorite activity! This one had me grinning throughout.
4. TMBG: Particle Man Another music video. This time a song from the band They Might Be Giants called "Particle Man". Unlike other music videos that are taken from major songs, the lyrics in this one are so descriptive that the animation can follow the lyrics of the flash perfectly. It's also well drawn, which helps. The song absolutely dictates the animation here and that's great because the song is so dang amusing that anything other would take away from it, I think. Great piece of work. If you know and like the song you will ADORE this.
5. Mega Man vs. Quick Man I'm a fan of the early "Mega Man" video games by Capcom. "Mega Man 2" (which this animation is based on) was also the one that got first caught my interest. This is a well done, pure fight, animation. Mega Man has come to the lair of the Robot Master, Quick Man. Now the two must battle to the death.
Another month come and gone. Hope you like my selections. Chow!
Till next time,
Toma O'Two Tatel
The top 5 submissions for May are:
1. Newgrounds SIM v 1.2 GAME! Anyone that goes to newgrounds can make an account and with it they may submit movies, write reviews, post in the forums, gain experience and so on. This flash takes all these elements and incorporates the Newground experience into a sim/RPG style game. It's kind of repetitious and long but it really shows off this site to good advantage.
2. Bunnykill 3 Vol.1 fight movie. One bunny against the high tech hoards in the moonbase. Much carnage and slaying will be done before this is over. I really like this series.
3. Retarded Animal Babies 13 The Puppy and Cat don't see eye to eye as they endeavor to pretend they're in scenes from their favorite sci-fi blockbusters. Why? Puppy never saw the Original Trilogy, and Cat never saw the prequels! It's an interesting concept though found the humor to be kind of infantile. Not bad, it just didn't work for me personally.
4. Valhalla Knights this was one of my favorite movies of the month. It's more of an introduction to what I am sure will be a great series to follow. The story starts with a beautiful woman fighting for her life against a relentless opponent that looks appropriatly sinister. On her last ropes, she calls a magic power to her and... Fast foreword, a cop is saddled with mysterious items from his deceased father. Lots of foreshadowing and few answers before it ends. I hope the series continues soon.
5. DucktaleZ 3 Third in a Ducktales parody series that isn't really related to each other. This is the best of the three which still isn't too good in my opinion. It's not... terrible. Some of the animation is actually pretty good but the rest of it is really bad and ugly looking. I find the duck's voices to be really annoying and I don't care too much for the humor. Blocky ducks hitting each other and fart humor (I REALLY hate fart jokes) It's also long, over 18 minutes. Overall my least favorite of the movies I am linking to this month.
With that out of the way, here is a list (in no particular order) of the top 30 movies and games that I saw for the first time this month. I know it's long and you probably won't want to see it all in one sitting but you can just watch one or two whenever you feel bored and then keep the rest for another day.
My top picks for May are:
1. Nim's Winter tale Nim goes out in the dead of winter to the nearby farm to do some repairs on their barn and then has some porridge, that's the story. Don't be fooled though, this and Gooberstory may very well be the prettiest animations in newgrounds. It's slow and long (8 minutes I am told) but the time just flies by for me. It's from the background animation to with wonderfully warming harp music played for the majority. It makes me feel good everytime I watch it. It's something that feeds my soul. I think this is my new all-time favorite animation on Newgrounds and I am VERY disappointed that it was not a monthly top 5.
2008self: Still my all time favorite animation. Just a gorgeous, gorgeous flash.
2. Gooberstory This one is just as lovely as Nim's but is a bit more surreal. The Gooberstory is a tribute to the peanut, and the story itself might be very hard to get. But those who have looked inside a peanut and found the little fishes, might be able to understand my message. But most people just think it is a weird yet beautiful tale and have no clue why the little fishes die and turn into peanuts and I would be one of them. The film is also a tribute to life, death and all that surrounds us. That everything, no matter how small or insignificant, has a story to tell. You must watch this.
3. A Mother is... May 19th is Mother's Day so I picked out my favorite of the Mother's Day tributes that were released. It's kind of like a Hallmark card. Enjoy!
4. Subliminal Messages buton black masking is the "hiding" of messages within foreword phrases so that when played backwards another phrase is revealed. This flash shows a few such songs. It seems really iffy to me for some of them but still a wonderfully creepy little audio flash. I like how it shows some artists using this technique deliberately (making gibberish parts on their songs, even they can't seem to make it make sense both ways which makes me think even more that this is a hoax) so people will feel compelled to play backwards and hear what they really said. lol
5. Birdie Wild Submission You sit back and watch as a bunch of straight lines show up and disappear as they work to create a picture. It has a surprisingly fast pace to it and an almost hypnotic quality with a good techno background beat as you watch it all come together.
6. Don't Stop Me Now This one is weird, is it EVER wierd but good. I don't think I can describe it, sorry, you will have to just watch it for yourself. Lots of short bits animation bits are interconnected by a pair of tickets to a rock concert to Spacial Relations.
7. Billy's Phith Two very lispy kids sing a song about Billy's fish. It's very cute and really catchy. It can stick on the head after listening to it. A nice little Music video fit for the whole family.
- Fossil This is my favorite of the 3 though they are all similar.
- Free Money
8. Glurk! Aliens create a genetically altered mouse to help them take over the world. I won't spoil the ending but keep a close watch when they land the ship. It took me 2 views to get the punchline/end.
9. I won't forget A very touching and well animated foreign, musical short about a robot that won't forget the girl he spent his life with until she died.
10. story of a loser A new kid's first day of school. Everyone is the same except him and they taunt him without mercy. A serious short with lessons against bullying and such.
11. C&C : Present 4 Ya based on one of my favorite real-time, strategy games. The GDI research and development have just created a badass, uber tank that they will use to wipe out an enemy Nod base. BOOYA!!!
12. Stop Crying - Part 1 A VERY promising introduction to what should be an touching series/tribute. This movie is dedicated to Jai, the author's brother who died Jan 2005, at the age of 27. He had a happy childhood until a tragic accident that turned his life up side down when he was 17. This movie is like his biography, about his life before and after the accident from the sister/author's viewpoint...
- Stop Crying - Part 2 Part two, it shows how the author and her brother Jay interacted. Specificly, a new paper route that Jay takes. Slow pacing and sadness and dispair permiates the work. It doesn't help that you just KNOW it's going to end badly by the series' end. Very well done.
13. Joe's Flash Tutorial You have probably seen a number of cartoons by this point. Ever wonder how it's done? There is a specific program you can get and after you do you have to do some things to make it happen. Here is a fun an interesting little tutorial that was made as a school project. Usually these sorts of things are boring as I don't even have the program that you need to do it but this was pretty witty so I enjoyed it alot even if I can't put the lesson to practical use.
14. The Four Seasons I thought this was just a wonderful little gem that I found. It's a simple animation that just has a summer home in the middle the woods. You watch the changes as it goes though the 4 seasons while listening to a soothing piano piece. Newgrounds is a home for every style and level of artistic skill and is the richer for it..
15. "The Fox and the Mirror" Not your typical Newgrounds movie. It's full-animated flash made on old fashioned paper with pencils. It was then scanned to the computer, some sound and music effects were added and voila. A fox sees a butterfly and follows it into a cave where it finds a mirror. It has some abstract concepts in it as well that are difficult to get unless you read the author's comments.
16. The Lunargirl A funny 30 second short animation about a boy that has found his dream girl that lives on the moon. However when he gets there, he's in for a surprise. <grins> Find out what it was and watch the movie already.
17. Tiger_Chick's Secret this one really appealed to my humor. I also love the voice acting for Strangeclock. It just sounds so neat. On to the story. Apparently, Tigerchick is a real person that likes writing very long reviews for Newgrounds movies all the time and Strangeclock, the author, thinks that's really weird so he made a movie making fun of her tendency to do that.
18. After Graduation Another very short show where one grad goes from school to becoming Darth Vader. I like how they did the transition and the final pose looked cool,
19. Biggest Fear the latest foamy movie. You may have noticed previous movies of him in earlier issues. If you liked those you will like this. In Fear. He talks to his owner Germanie about what they are MOST afraid of.
- Foamy: Channels In Channels. He and his new (Mexican? black?) friend are flipping around on TV, trying to find something interesting. There isn't and Foamy begins to rant :)
20. Combat Instinct GAME! This is the first part of a space shooter trilogy. I enjoyed it alot. Possibly because I can't die in it. Heh, I like easy games best and this has a good story and well thought out universe. War has broken out again against an evil alien race. You start out as a gunner for a big ship then when your post is destroyed you have to fight alien horde that have boarded and get to a space fighter. Then you fly around in space shooting people. Lots of fun
- Combat Instinct 2 More story is developed and it's harder then the first part. Still fun.
- Combat Instinct 3 The conclusion This is REALLY hard I got tired of restarting round halfway through so I used a cheat. Something to so with shift and clicking on alien weapons. Maybe I'll write it down someday... A good end to the series though. Best first person shooter I've played in Newgrounds.
2008self: I should add a qualifier. This is not a May 2005 game. I just found it that month. NG used to have a revolving door of old submissions posted on the front page. Not anymore though. It was a nice touch. I thought so anyway.
21. techlogic answering mach. This song is the Mentos theme song with new lyrics as an answering machine. Really enjoyable to listen too. If I had an answering machine I'd love to have callers listen to this when they get it. YOU MUST LISTEN!!
2008self: Author wants to delete this. I really like the song though and he hasn't erased the flash yet...
22. Ghost Out Part one of a possible new series. I love the old detective film noir movies and this definably fits right on there. Black and white backgrounds, overhead first person narration from our hero, it even ends with him being shot at the start. Sure it's clichéd as hell but it's still a good romp and well done.
23. Star Wars Transitions The term 'transitions' in this case is for when you move from one scene to another and back again in a movie. George Lucas has been VERY fond of using them in his second Star Wars trilogy. Has he gone too far? The answer in this humorous short is HELL YES!!!!!
24 Random Acts A decent monologue animation, with good voice acting, about one woman's hilariously twisted ideas on how to perform random acts of kindness.
25. Safety At work. a cute looking animation that shows the dangers of not wearing a helmet to work. Starts one of those pesky chain reactions that go from one small thing to a bigger thing until a disaster unfolds. <grins>
26. The Jedi Song A nifty song that someone made up especially for this flash. The animation itself was rushed and not the best quality though the lip sinquing for it is very nicely done. I think it's so neat that this guy is in a band and they created their own song and then can show it off to a mass audience like this.
27. -BOX- I love watching this silent, random movie. Boxes fly around it ever more complicated patterns. It's simple but also kind of transfixing. I enjoyed watching the different way he used the simple cube shape in so many ways.
28. Ultimate skate video 2 This tutorial shows you various skateboarding tricks and how to accomplish many of them with simple instructions. I don't skateboard myself but I found it interesting to watch anyway.
29. Born in the 80's Just a fun clip compilation of a bunch popular 80's songs with a little animation to go with each.
30. The Maxwell Edison Story I'd never known about this Beetles song (Maxwell's Silver Hammer) until I watched this. Been awhile since that has happened. It's pretty catchy too. It's also a tune that's kinda greusome (being how it's about a serial killer that finishes his victims off with a silver hammer) and believe me this animation reflects that.
Now for 5 older submissions. In honor of "Star Wars: Episode 3" being released this month They will all be of that theme. Now, in Newgrounds ,there are some pages specifically devoted to a certain theme such as Star Wars . These are called collections. Why don't you check it out here?
Star Wars Collections: If you really like Star Wars you should enjoy this. Over three dozen flash animations on the topic at last count. Now on to some personal favorites.
1. Star Wars Gangsta Rap: SE Yes it's a gansta rap but there is no swearing or insults anywhere to be found. I normally don't like this stuff but the visuals, the words and yes the funky technobeat all make this one of my absolute favorite animations in newgrounds. A definite must watch.
2. Star Wars : Missing Scene Darth Vader had more to say besides "I am your father, Luke" This writer imagines how that famous conversation might have gone if he original movies wern't made before the prequels. In this humorous take on that famous scene Darth Vader tells how he created C3PO, blew up his own super ship (at the tender age of 6 even) and various other things.
3. Star Wars : Lo Mein Darth Vadar and the Emperor go to a Chinese Restaurant for some Lo Mein. Things don't go as planned. <laughs>
4. Star Wars 3: AOS One of the better live action amateur lightsaber fights I have seen on Newgrounds. 2 people on each side, light and dark, who will win?
5. An Empire of One This is a parody of the 'Army of One' adds the USA uses to recruit new soldiers. One of the best parodies I have seen so far.
Well that's it for Newgrounds. However Newgrounds isn't the only place to get star wars stuff. As a special bonus, here are a few more professional live action downloadables I have found online. Check it out:
1. Deul a professional looking, live action, lightsaber duel. Very cool
2008self:dead link now. I'll have to search around and find it again.
2. Star Wars: Revelations You must look at this site it has a 42 minute, fan made movie that took YEARS to make. Totally unbelievable in it's quality.
